Publisher's Summary

An isolated Swedish town. A deaf reporter terrified of nature. A dense spruce forest overdue for harvest. A pair of eyeless hunters found murdered in the woods.

It's week one of the Swedish elk hunt, and the sound of gunfire is everywhere. When Tuva Moodyson investigates the story that could make her career, she stumbles on a web of secrets that knit Gavrik town together.

Are the latest murders connected to the Medusa killings 20 years ago? Is someone following her? Why take the eyes? Tuva must face her demons and venture deep into the woods to stop the killer and write the story. And then get the hell out of Gavrik.

Blown Away

The first thing that struck me was the performance of the narrator Mars Lindh. Her accent and cadence was beautiful, even lyrical. The second thing that struck me was the fact that the book was written in the first person. That and the short, incredibly detailed sentences. My whole attention was captured immediately and then as the story began to unfold I had to keep in listening because I simply had to know what happened next. Excellent all round. I hope to see more from both the author and narrator.

Absolutely gripping

I was gripped right from the start and had to keep listening. The atmosphere of a small town in Sweden, the menacing woods, and the characters in the story, were beautifully evoked. Tuva, the main protagonist, was complex and interesting and the really fantastic narration helped to make her very believable. I think the story line was a little weak especially towards the end , but by then I was so interested in Tuva that it didn’t matter.
An absolutely excellent listen - I look forward to the next one by Will Dean and for anything narrated by Maya Lindh.

A refreshing read

I loved the setting of this story, in deepest darkest Sweden and the motley cast of characters. It’s wonderfully descriptive and completely transportive from the off. Just don’t choose this book if you have a phobia of creepy crawlies (if you don’t, the description of the moose ticks will surely give you one!).

Dark and twisty

Scandic crime from the pen of a talented English writer. I gave this 3 stars because it’s so well written I found it a bit rich for my taste. The tension is sustained throughout. Highly recommended if you like your noir as dark and bitter as your coffeee.i
