Heading to the top of the genre!

I am a white guy who was raised in S.C. and Mr. Massey has moved near the top of my favorite writers in this genre!! To read some of the write ups on his books make it sound like he writes only for Black people, not true at all. I look forward to his next release. I really enjoy this narrator, he's great. Enjoy!!

NO Stars for this one...sorry

If the Description of this book stated that there were VAMPIRES... I WOULD NOT HAVE added this to my Collection (I have over 210 AudioBooks in my account here!) It is NOT Audible's fault, they are not in charge of making the Descriptions for any of these AudioBooks, (The Author/Publishers are responsible). So, make sure to read the reviews or see how members rate these books before you decide on adding a book to your collection. Massey, the author of this book has a great audiobook out, "The Other Brother", (Which I made a review on) That is why I failed to read the reviews on this book... I assumed the next book from this author would have been just as great as the first one I listened to.... Read those Reviews!!!

Scary Good, You don't want to put it down

Where does Dark Corner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

number 1

What other book might you compare Dark Corner to and why?

a good Stephen King book I read called

Have you listened to any of J.D. Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listen to one that I did not like. He has one smooth sexy voice that has a lot of strength to it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, Yes, Yes a very extreme reaction. I got to do a little of both really, I cried when his neighbors the Franklins died. Laughed at Poke and Deputy DoDo.

Any additional comments?

Keep them coming. I love your imagination Mr.Massey

Entertaining Escapism

This was a fun way to spend some boring afternoons or nights. The story developed immediately and it takes you for a ride. The narrator was talented in going from one voice to the other, so you were never distracted from the story. I hope there will be a continuation of the hero in a sequel.

Pretty Good

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a basic vampire tale. Although I'd have liked it better if the author would've given a more historical background.

Have you listened to any of J.D. Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think this is the first book I've heard J.D. Jackson perform. His voice was engaging.

Could you see Dark Corner being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think a tv series. Anthony Mackie as David Hunter; Idris Elba as his Father Richard. Stellar combination.

Kept me awake at work!

This was a highly enjoyable listen. It's a thrilling tale of vampires loose in a small Southern town and ordinary people banding together to fight against very long odds. The narration could have been a bit more interesting and the relationship between the two main characters - David and Nia - was a bit too perfect. I hope that Brandon Massey continues to gain a wider audience that includes people from all cultures, he deserves it.

DID NOT ENJOY THIS

I HAD NO CLUE THIS WAS ABOUT VAMPIRES. IF I HAD I WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN IT. IF YOU LIKE THIS TYPE OF BOOK THIS IS A VERY GOOD ONE. AS FOR ME I FEEL LIKE I WASTED MY CREDIT ON THIS ONE.

Wish I could listen to it again for the first time

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Great story. The author weaved the different characters and the plot together very well.

What did you like best about this story?

It kept my attention the whole way through. It hooked me from the first scene. It was a great story about a man searching for his father, and the theme of father/son relationships was echoed in two other sets of characters. It took me on a journey, and then surprised me at the very end, just when I had forgotten about David's search for his own father. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Have you listened to any of J.D. Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

It was good. I usually listen to Jackson's narrations at 1.25x speed which improves the pacing. He is really good at doing different characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Even though it was 18+ hours, I finished it faster than any other audiobook I've listened to so far.

Any additional comments?

It was a great story. Sometimes the dialogue of certain characters was distracting, and I laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of a vampire leaving a cassette tape player for David with a sticky note that said, "play me," but all in all it was really fun escapism. Since it was written last decade, I'm curious to see how Massey has since developed as a writer.
