Publisher's Summary

Deadpool meets Game of Thrones in this thrilling tale of demons, dragons and treachery.

After Breed, a thief-assassin of small renown, is chased by a dragon, tricked by a demon, almost killed by a psychopathic gang boss and hunted by a ferocious spider, life really takes a turn for the worse. Sentenced to five years bonded servitude to a one-handed priest magician, Breed must find the hammer of the ancient hero known only as The Hammer of the North within a year and a day...or else. So, with only a drug-addicted vagrant, a rat-faced child and a timid priest for backup, Breed sets out for the mighty city of Valen and the tomb of the Hammer. What could possibly go wrong?

Grim, dark and funny, Dangerous to Know is the first audiobook in the epic sword and sorcery trilogy The Chronicles of Breed.

When it was first published in 2014, this story was short-listed for the Robert Holdstock, British Fantasy Society, Best Novel Award.

Disappointing

I have not been a fan of this book. I couldn’t even get through it. This book seems to lack development of the main character and tries much too hard to be witty and funny but at the expense of plot and a developed character. I’m used to fiction like the powder mage trilogy, the shadow campaigns, and the dagger and the coin. This just pales in comparison to these other titles. Save your credits.

Deadpool my a$$

There was nothing funny here, it is a flavorless slog through clotted oatmeal of a storyline. I had to put it away after 3 chapters. Very predictable, no clever humor, basically a snoozefest. if i can find a way to get my money back, I'm willing to call it even.

audio editing was bad

the oddly placed 2 second pause dropped in conversation broke the flow of this story badly

Overhyped

I finished this book and that was quite the accomplishment. I know the author poured his heart and soul into his work, and maybe it just isn't geared towards me, but I was majorly confused when I read it. There are many great reviews and claims such as 'as funny as Deadpool' which led to my confusion. I found no humor in it at all, the character is unrelatable and shows no personal growth throughout the story, and his backstory seems pointless and unbelievable. I wanted to like this book, to branch out and explore this new world that the author created, but after this painful start to the series I am returning it any moving on.

A Delightful, often unholy, Story Full of Fun

This Novel is full of humorous and interesting characters with lighthearted disrespect for traditional values. The main character is an amoral rogue who often does the heroic thing despite himself. Almost no romance but embroidered with love and caring for other characters.

False advertisement

It wasn't a bad story by any means but the ads hype up the story a little too much.

Long pauses?

The narrator pauses way too long. Made me flick my headset on and off a few times... frustrating. Other than that it was good.

Simply awful!

The story would have fairly enjoyable if the narrator and editor had any skill.

This maybe a book I try and read. The editor has stitched together the audio of this book like its Frankenstein. Way too many long gaps which breaks up the story and the flow.

The narrator lacks skill to convey a gripping story.

Same really, the story seemed like it could have been fun.

Unlistenable

The narrator has stopped me from listening to this book.

The writing might be great, the story could be a classic, I will never know because I'd rather rip my ears off than listen to this.

The overly long pauses, the monotone delivery, the awful pronunciation!

I had this on 1.15% listening speed and the breaks in narration were still like chasms between clauses.

Sorry, but a child reading in a school assembly in front of parents is easier to follow than this.

Overall Good, bad editing.

Great sorry, audiobook has sloppy editing with large quiet gaps in conversations. It leaves you wondering if the audiobook has stopped playing or not, and often kills the flow in the excellently written witty back and forths.

couldn't finish it

After four hours I gave up. I found the main character too annoying, nothing like Deadpool. Also, the narrator leaves too long of a pause between sentences and I found that annoying and distracting.

feels like a young adult novel with swear words.

after reading reviews was hoping for a dark/gritty/fun novel, but just sounds childish. am sure it would be great if I was a teenager, but didn't see "young adult" anywhere when purchasing.

Fast paced, fantasy novel.

This was not my normal genre but having enjoyed books by this narrator before I thought I would give it a try and was not disappointed. The narrator brought the characters to life with his different voices. The main character, Breed, is a witty character, with a slightly weird, cruel sense of humour. It was fast paced and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy novels.

Narrator is awful

This was a struggle not help by the awful narrator, seriously so many times I think it’s dropped out in my car but it’s just him having an unnaturally long pause
The story also took a lot of effort to get into that being said by the end I finally started to get into it so have bought the second book- warning this second also starts slow and painful so I’m hoping it speeds up well
But yeah this narrator-terrible!

light fun

It's a light and fun story. The narration is a bit odd; there's long pauses where you think the app has stopped and he pronounces some words strangely like "denziens" instead of denizens, and I assume he's trying to say geas but it comes out as gas. But overall I enjoyed it.
