Publisher's summary

Army National Guard Colonel Sawyer Kincaid has served her time dueling with death in the deserts of Africa. Now that she's home, the only sand she wants to see is on the beach in South Florida. Too bad Tropical Storm Leo, swiftly gaining strength out over the Atlantic, is about to draw her in to another life or death war, this time on home soil. Dr. Dara Sims has too many critical patients in the intensive care units at Miami Memorial to consider evacuation, no matter how determined the battle-hardened colonel is to make her. As far as Dara is concerned, evacuate is just another word for abandon. When a state of emergency becomes a state of siege waged by Leo, all she can do is hope the rising waters relent before she loses everyone, herself included. A First Responders Romance.

Good story but horrible narrative. Hard to listen

Good story but HORRIBLE narrative. Very difficult to listen when her lisp was so bad.

Not a Radclyffe best plus horrible narration

Usually if I have gotten some enjoyment out of an audible book, I try to take that into consideration and have a positive review. However this one is just not good. Neither the writing nor the narration is good and I almost stopped several times but felt I had to push through to see if it got better. It didn't. This is probably a safe one to pass on. #lesbian #sweepstakes #tagsgiving

I loved it!

I enjoyed the characters connection but this book felt different from the other first responders and I can't put my finger on it just yet.

Advanced military women, NCO or officer, are strong capable leaders

Advanced military women, NCO or officer, are strong capable leaders, and can find it difficult to find someone who has the same strength combined with the understanding of the military job. Radclyffe developed the Colonel, Doctor, and reporter with similar inherent capabilities and strengths. Each uses that strength to accomplish their mission. It doesn’t take long to see which will be the the ultimate heroines. My only wish is that Radclyffe would continue their story in a future book or two.

Narrator - computer with a lisp?

I love Radclyffe and I am sorry to be so blunt, about the narrator but it is true. I had to make sure my phone wasn’t malfunction first and came to realize it was actually a person with a lisp reading. I at times thought truly this is a new computer voice that they are trying out and they gave it a lisp. I prefer her prior narrators and it would have made the audible more palatable for sure. It seemed to take forever for me to get through it as it was just frustrating to listen to at times.

Blow Me Down

Another Radcliffe gem! I mean when Radcliffe writes it’s like right out of a movie or something! I loved the story and characters! As usual I always learn a lot with Radcliffe — never knew the preparation it takes when a hurricane is spotted and all the work soldiers and hospital staff must do! The love growing between the characters were spot on and believable! Sexy as usual — I loved it!! Also I loved the reader as well — sign — now that I have finished this book — I have to wait for another! Love the first responders series — as I said before Radcliffe is a writing ass! Keep then coming!! I never tire of Radcliffe!!

This Narrator Though...

Using a narrator with a lisp makes the entire book difficult to listen to. Why hasn't anyone told this woman she's in the wrong line of work? Radclyffe books deserve better.

Couldn’t stop

I like when Rad writes adventure, and this one falls into that category. It’s all about anticipation of landfall alongside the romance. And it doesn’t use the trope of being trapped at death’s door and clinging to each other to feel alive. That was such a refreshing surprise. The setting provides the drama and the story, and the romance is more organic and normal. I truly enjoyed this one.

Great Story

Another great story in the 1st responders series. Definately worth listening to. Radclyffe doesn't disappoint and the narrator was pretty good too.

Not as good as it should have been.

Had the makings of a very good book but it dragged, on and on

An excellent Story But...

I love all of Radclyffe's books but a narrator can make or brake the enjoyment of a book and I am sorry to say with L W Salinas happy voice throughout such a serious subject, this ruined what I was hoping to be a great listen.

Great book but

The story was great but the narrator was horrible - it really destroyed a lot of the experience

Good lesfic novel spoiled by the narrator

This is an interesting story about a hurricane and brings the listener insight about how first responders prepare. BUT, and it is a big but, the narrator pronounces words with a 's' sound in a really affected way that started to seriously get on my nerves after 2 chapters. I am going to continue listening to this story because I enjoy lesfic romances and Radclyffe's First Responder novels. Also the subject matter is interesting, but I will have to listen a little at a time otherwise I shall start yelling with frustration at L. W. Salinas and her affected cutesy, little girl pronunciation.

I have no idea what the producer and/or director of this audiobook were thinking to choose L. W. Salinas to narrate this novel. Perhaps she was cheap and they did not want to spend much on a lesfic audiobook. Salinas pronounces words that should have 's' sounds with a 'th' sound, so we hear eg 'thith ith the thixth time I've heard thith thound', which becomes seriously annoying after a while. L. W. Salinas, her colleagues, friends and family regard this pronunciation as 'cute', and in everyday conversation it may be ok, but to be forced listen to repeated mispronounciation for the length of a whole audiobook is SERIOUSLY ANNOYING.

Over time it has become obvious to me that producing good quality LGBTQ+ audiobooks is not high on Audible's priorities but, since Audible sell these recordings in the form of audiobooks, they should ensure what they sell is of a reasonable standard, including the narration. For this reason Audible should take better care about who is hired to narrate the audiobooks they sell.

Most disappointing, where did Radcliffe go?

I am a huge Radclyffe fan, I have nearly 50 of her books in my library, Dangerous Waters was - boring- the amount of times I fell asleep trying to get over chapter 7 was a good nights sleep. I am pretty sure it was partly because of the narrative, but mostly the story was very disjointed. I know it is hard to fall in love in a day but honestly the girls had not even spoken more than a few words together before crying undying love and then it took to about chapter 20 or so for first kiss! HJust very underbaked. As previously stated I am one of Radclyffe's biggest fans but this has left me wondering if the recipe may need an overhaul
