Publisher's Summary

As a leader in teaching, training, and transforming boys in Detroit, Jason Wilson shares his own story of discovering what it means to “be a man” in this life-changing memoir.

His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today.

As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson has decades of experience in strengthening the physical, mental, and emotional spirit of boys and men. In Cry Like a Man, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.

As Wilson writes, “My passion is to help boys and men find strength to become courageously transparent about their own brokenness as I shed light on the symptoms and causes of childhood trauma and ‘father wounds’. I long to see men free themselves from emotional incarceration - to see their minds renewed, souls weaned, and relationships restored.”

Great book!

This book opens up on a level of being a black man that you can sit back and reflect on your own life and your life's battles; it hits a lot of points that we face so much in being men. Many of us hold things in so much that we refuse to open up wife's, causing a miscommunication that needs to be open.
Great book!

Insightful

A very necessary insightful journey. Mr. Wilson pulls the wool off the hidden pains men too often broach without release or support and gives permission to feel and cry on a bonafide level of redemption.

Marvelous book

This is such an excellent book, it really opened up my heart to the pain of my past and how it has been holding me backs I’m not even a male but I cherish this book. I’m so thankful for it. As I was listening, the Holy Spirit brought to my attention so many wounds that have festered and need to be dealt with. I am on my road to freedom and I recommend this book to any and everyone who is looking for freedom from their past. God is able to free you if only you are willing. I’m excited to see where God will take me in my next chapter.

Was worth the wait

This book broke me and revealed to me that i have to step my game up as a father , husband, and a friend and be emotionally there for the people in my life. I know the book frowns on fighting back tears but I literally had too because jason and i walks of life is strangely similar. I too had a dad that as there but wasn’t there, and it affected me deeply. This book was worth the wait when jason announced it early ‘18
