When the home of Alex Cross' oldest friend, Ellie Cox, is turned into the worst murder scene Alex has ever seen, the destruction leads him to believe that he's chasing a horrible new breed of killer. As Alex and his girlfriend, Brianna Stone, become entangled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington DC, what they discover is shocking: a stunningly organized gang of lethal teenagers headed by a powerful, diabolical man - the African warlord known as the Tiger. Alex Cross really catches the Tiger by the toe

James Patterson truly out does himself in this Alex Cross adventure. He takes our most nightmarish fears of international crimes and espionage, and brings it home to us in this tale of true crime war between the good and evil.
I was left energized by Cross's constant will to fight for justice from out nation's Capitol to darkest Africa, driven and fueled by blood thirsty mercenaries, corrupt industry and government agencies, and human greed. And, I was deeply humbled by what is actually the inconvenient truth about the still ongoing hellish brutality happening in Africa; but not here.
James Patterson is a truly exceptional writer and story teller.
If there was a mystery writer that has inspired me write crime novels? It would James Patterson.
Five stars all around. And, two thumbs up.

Easily the worst yet

if you have made it this far in the series maybe you too could feel the same way. cross should of died and his family for the choices he makes in this book.

its frustrating how he's constantly saying how could this happen to my family (throughout the series)

and the epilogue that ties everything up with a nice bow with just a, oh by the way I did all this detective work that is going to go un-written and would have been. probably, more interesting than the material you just read up till that point.

it was so bad I'm on the fence about giving it an alternate ending, cross dies in Africa. and the series ends there.

(yes I'm a fan of the series, which is why its frustrating. this "normal" detective foils danger that topples governments.. what's next... cross vs demone from the underworld?! keep it local... keep it believably)

Cross takes a dive

As much as I enjoy the Dr. Cross series, I have to say this book did not live up to expectations. I mean - good grief, why would the author take a seemingly intelligent character and dumb him down? Cross has no knowledge of or authority in Nigeria, but travels there unprepared and acts indignant when he receives no cooperation. Duh! Then there is the continual "beating up" of Dr. Cross which is really tiresome. Not the author's best work.

Precurser to What?

Book at times drags along... It is intense in typical Alex Cross character... Only recommend for those of us who are familiar with Alex Cross's character

Good Storyline

Hated the music and the overly dramatic narration. Good story as most Alex Cross novels are.

Spellbinding

Very enjoyable Book, with plenty of plot twist to keep you wondering what was going to happen next. James Patterson's books with Alex Cross always have been one of my favorites. You won't be disappointed.

Not My Favorite

This is not my favorite "Alex Cross" book. I am sorry I spent the money to download it. I should have just gotten it at the library for free...

Amazing

Would you consider the audio edition of Cross Country to be better than the print version?

Right now, small print is difficult for me to read. So I listen to audio books to enjoy my stories.

What did you like best about this story?

The climax when all of Adan's family and Adan herself eventually dies. It was a heart-wrenching, sad event. However this fueled Alex and brought him back to focus on Tiger.

What does Peter J. Fernandez and Dion Graham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They were both good narraters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was heart wrenching and sad that parents and children were murdered as if life was not worth anything- but this is how Tiger felt. His childhood playing a major role in who he has become - a remorseless murderer, willing to do anything for the right amount of money.

Typical Patterson

If you like James Patterson's Alex Cross, you'll like this book. The only thing new is Alex is in Africa.
