Press play on this funny, sexy short story about rival true-crime podcast hosts forced to play nice and work together when, in reality, all they want to do is kill each other.

Emery Thompson hates Calvin Chamberlain. From the way he acts like he’s better than everyone to the way he moves through the world thinking his podcast is the cream of the crop, every little thing about the man gets to him. Even that dashing, oh-so-confident smile. He’d rather be caught dead than be around the man any longer than necessary—or admit that last part out loud.

Calvin Chamberlain hates admitting defeat. It’s hard enough losing sponsors for his historical crime podcast while obnoxious pop-culture ones like Emery’s only gain more, so it’s a particularly cruel twist of fate when a late fan’s request for a collaboration with Emery lands in his lap. He’s in no position to turn down the plea, and with no way out, Calvin reluctantly agrees.

But keeping things purely professional turns out to be a challenge when these two make it to the studio. Their chemistry crackles through their microphones, and soon, their numbers begin to skyrocket. Can these two make a killing off what they once thought was a death sentence—and more importantly, will Calvin and Emery give into the heat of passion?

About the creator

Jack Harbon is an award-winning author obsessed with storytelling in all forms. If he’s not working on one of his (many, many) manuscripts, he’s most likely somewhere crocheting, watching French horror movies, searching for dolls to add to his collection, or causing chaos and mayhem in The Sims.

About the Performer

Lauded for his boyish voice, emotional range and fluid vocalizations, Kevin R. Free is one of the narrators of the 2011 Audie Award-winning Here in Harlem and an Audie Award Finalist for his narration of The Red Pyramid (with Katherine Kellgren). Kevin was named a Golden Voice in 2012 by AudioFile Magazine and is a recipient of 10 Earphones Awards, including one for his narration of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Known World. A narrator of over 300 audiobooks since 2001, he is especially proud of his narration of several series including Martha Wells’s Murderbot Diaries, Walter Dean Myers’s The Cruisers, and Jay Bell’s Something Like.

About the Performer

Ron Butler is a highly lauded narrator, with over a dozen Audiofile Earphone Awards, and seven Audie Award nominations, (most recently for King and The Dragonflies by Kacen Callender, and The Lesson by Cadwell Turnbull). His titles consistently make annual "Best Of" lists every year, and his work spans multiple genres. As an actor, he has over a hundred film, theater, and television credits, (most notably as a regular on True Jackson VP), and an IFP Award winner for his work in the HBO film Everyday People. He has written, directed and produced social media content garnering millions of views, and spends his time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, CA.

It was a good and quick listen. Funny and romance LGBT in one. Not bad. Not that great either. I am here to support #pride.

Calvin and Emery both have true crime podcasts. Emery thinks that Calvin Chamberlain is a stuck-up know-it-all who walks around like his podcast is the best thing ever to hit the air waves. Everything about Calvin annoys him. Calvin, on his side, thinks Emery Thompson just doesn't take the subject matter seriously and doesn't show the proper respect to the real-life victims he is talking about. It's also hard for him to see that the "less serious" podcasts are gaining more attention while he is losing listeners and sponsors because he tends to more serious matter. A twist of fate throws them together for a 3-episode special edition of their podcasts in honor of a late fan whose dream was to see them collaborate. Their chemistry together is off the charts and the numbers start to go up, but pretty soon their glaring differences will get in the way, because, you know, chemistry this good doesn't happen only on air...

This was such great listen! It's very short (around 2 hours running time) but in this short time it packs a lot of humor, great banter, even a little steam. All this while tackling some very important issues.

Narration: Kevin Free(new to me) and Ron Butler (whom I adore) as the main characters but this audiobook has a full cast and special effects. A wonderful production in such s short piece! A must listen!

Rep and possible triggers: Black main characters, MM romance. Mentions of violent crimes, mentions of police brutality

Lovely story, great banter, great message

I really enjoyed the book. I love the fact that same sex couples were just a couple dealing with regular old attraction and communication issues. There was never a discussion about denying who they are and that aspect made book refreshing.

Cute and Enjoyable
