Publisher's Summary

The infamous Dodd murders are hardly among Eastport's proudest legacies. So when best-selling true-crime author Carolyn Rathbone arrives to research the case for a new book, the locals in the seaside town let her know that she's about as welcome as a spoiled clam. But surely no one would harm a crime writer out of a sense of civic pride--or would they?

Jake has her own problems, from the mysteries of old-house insulation to an anonymous caller plaguing her with death threats. But with Carolyn's arrival, the slayings of the wealthy Dodd women suddenly go from cold case to hot topic - much to someone's dismay. For Carolyn Rathbone's untimely investigation has unearthed a string of deadly secrets that a cunning killer is grimly determined to rebury, right along with Carolyn herself.

Really beyond credibility...ham-fisted plot

While the narration is flawless and compelling, the story was one ridiculous scene after another. It was a an unending series of 'gotcha' moments interspersed with tedious stream-of-consciousness interior monologues. And it's hard to feel much more than frustration with a plot that is hammered at you with heavy melodrama. And finally,I found it ridiculous that Jake *again* loses her weapon because she still doesn't have a proper holster! She claims her husband is an expert who has schooled her in how to use a weapon, yet this is a glaring oversight.

This book is a dont read it dont buy it!

What would have made Crawlspace better?

The characters are not interesting or unique, the plot might have had a shot if the characters had not been so pathetic. It crept on and on and there was no reason to care about anyone.

Another winner

This is a great book. It started with action and kept it up through the entire book. This is the best in the series, so far.

Very depressing

I listened to this entire book hoping there'd be some redeeming cheerful parts but there were not. I don't really like books about serial killers, and I have listened to other books by Sarah Graves that were lighter, very enjoyable, and well worth the money. This is not that kind of book. I listen to audio books to be entertained, and to cozy mysteries (which I would not classify this book as in any way shape or form) rather than to finish a book and feel I threw away my audible credit and have nothing to show for it but a feeling of sadness and depression.

Entertaining if not up to standard

A decent story & excellent narration, but not as good as the prior books. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary padding, and the scenes appear a little disjointed. There are some things that don't appear to have been thought out (hint - if you fill a cube with an open top with water, how do you empty it without turning it over?). So, best idea: find a job to do and let the audio flow without too much critical thought - still enjoyable.

Disappointed

I have read all the books in this series and I have really enjoyed them. This one was a huge disappointment. I understand the writer wants to write a story that is gripping and full of suspense, but this one went over the top and became a depressing story where everything that could go wrong, went wrong. The reader gets to a point where you just roll your eyes and say, “you’ve got to be kidding.” I finished it only because I had so much time invested in it.

Story and narrator are outstanding!

I’ve listened to all of Sarah Graves’s series so far. They just keep getting better! And Lindsay Ellison is absolutely perfect in her narration! From her accurate Maine accent (I lived there) to her emotive reading, I couldn’t stop listening.

Nail Biting....

I always enjoy these books but this one is particularly entertaining. It was great that Bella had a larger part in the story and nice that Jake wasn’t receiving the knock along side the head all the time.

I enjoyed this!

I wanted to try an author I hadn't known and was pleasantly surprised. The reader was also very good. I'll be looking for more Sarah Graves-Home Repair Homicides
