Publisher's Summary

So much for senior year being the best part of high school.

It all started when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me.

I did what any girl would do - I got revenge. Of course, it didn’t stop there. Thanks to a condemning video, I also got eight weeks of community service and athletic probation right before basketball season is supposed to start. (There goes my spot as captain!)

Thankfully, there’s a guy at Marlowe Junction’s Helping Hands who makes passing the time more enjoyable. He’s gorgeous, funny, and a huge basketball fan.

Too bad he’s also my brother’s biggest enemy....

Courtside Crush is a modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet, perfect for anyone who likes their sweet romance with a dash of drama. It is the first book in the Varsity Girlfriends series.

Such a Cute High School Contemporary Book

I absolutely love listening to YA contemporary books and Courtside Crush is no exception.

The high school scenarios were very realistic. I liked the various relationships between the characters: love, rivalries, family, friends, etc. I felt the various story lines and settings were well balanced throughout the novel. The book was well paced and never felt too slow or too fast. I did not realize until part way in that this book is a loose retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I did not enjoy Romeo and Juliet when I read it, but I did enjoy this story. I hope to read more from Kayla Tirrell because I really enjoy her story telling.

Megan Meyer did a great job with distinct voices.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

YA Sports Romance Retelling

Ok I will admit now that I did not realize this was a modern day Romeo and Juliet retelling until I just saw the synopsis now. But it totally makes sense with the forbidden love at the two opposing schools, made worse by the feud between the boys. The book even used "Romeo" as a code name for the male love interest and random references were made throughout the book. I can easily say though that I liked Courtside Crush much better than I ever liked Romeo and Juliet and I highly recommend this as an audiobook since the narrator did a great job portraying Charlie's spunk as well as giving the side character's their own voices.

I will admit that I hate the fact that Charlie would not tell anyone the truth- instead she is willing to doing something terrible and debasing and hurt the feelings of a really nice person. I wanted to shake her and possibly throw an intervention because I knew how it was going to play out and nobody was going to win. I know that Charlie is a 17 year old girl but at times she seemed so immature with how she reacted to stress and drama. She was impulsive and a little reckless, acting on her instincts regardless of what she should actually do. I did like that she finally seemed to understand herself better near the end and that her action became more mature as she really took the time to think out her problems.

The side characters were really well developed as well, like her family dynamic, helping to make a well rounded story. Hands down, Jackson (aka the love interest aka Romeo) was my favorite character in the book overall. He was just a really great guy, so excepting and patient, willing to work around whatever crazy situation Charlie kept throwing out at him and defending her regardless of the crazy. Also Daria is the best friend a girl could ever ask for, helpful and forgiving- and full of rational advice that Charlie usually chooses not to listen too.

This was a cute, clean YA standalone romance that I would easily recommend to those who like retellings, headstrong female main characters and a sweet HEA- for now.

Great Read

Courtside Crush: Varsity Girlfriends, Book One was another great read by Kayla Tirrell. Charlie caught her boyfriend cheating on her and got her revenge. Unfortunately she was caught red handed and must do community service. There she meetsJackson who's helping the time go by better. Unfortunately for her, she finds out that he is her brother's biggest enemy and rival. I really enjoyed this book and loved Megan Meyer's narration. I can't wait to read more by Kayla Tirrell.

Fun and good!

Romeo and Charlie is everything and I so loved them!

I can't seriously fight the giggle and smile escaping my lips the whole time I'm devouring this. The frustration I felt toward Anderson is undeniably visible too, that my friends laughed at my "funny" expression (seriously that boy is ... grrrr)

This audiobook is so cute that I can't stop listening until the end. The narration is amazing and magnificent! I insanely feel every characters emotions with Megan Meyer's voice and it blends well with this brilliantly written book of Kayla Tirrell!

PERFECTION is an understatement with how great this is!

Teenage Love!

This is a great story! So real in so many ways. It was so easy to see the student hierarchy and how it affects the students decisions. Every choice make so save someone else's feeling always seem to backfire. This story shows that even the best intentions can backfire. The love story was heartwarming. The main characters showed more caring and understanding than some adults. Overall this was a very heartwarming story with a great happy ending.

Wonderful Story

An enjoyable story, well narrated by Megan Meyer. The storyline flows well, with believable reactions from each teenager's perspective, and a good plot well written.

Charming YA Sports Romance

Loved the story. It had a little bit of everything you want in a great YA romance; angst, blackmail, heartache, young love, friendship, etc. I loved that Charlie was such a strong female (mostly) main character; even though some of her actions didn't make sense with her being in trouble and all. All the characters were lovable and well written, Jackson was definitely swoonworthy. I liked the inclusion of sports so that there was more to the story than just the relationship. A fun enjoyable YA romance that is well written and leaves you feeling happy afterwards.

I also loved the narration for this story and feel like the narrator was absolutely perfect. She gave a great performance that was delightful to listen to and made these characters even easier to fall in love with.

Loved the story, the characters, great narration

Megan Meyer narrated this so well, bringing the book to life so beautifully. I kinda forgot that I was listening to just one person.

I loved this book. The characters and the story hooked me in and to be honest I could have listened a lot longer as it seemed to go past too quickly. I did spend quite a bit of time mentally shouting at the the characters as I got so involved in what was going on. I love watching all their relationships as they grew and changed.
