An unhealthy friendship takes a sinister turn. Almost everyone has a friend whom they barely tolerate. It’s that person whose jokes are always annoying, who tries to butt in on nights out, or who keeps coming over unannounced. For Martha, that friend is her new neighbor, Jennie.

Jennie worships Martha. She loves everything about her: Martha’s house, Martha’s impressive children, Martha’s attractive husband, even the way Martha dresses. But when Jennie starts changing, gaining confidence and succeeding in love and work, Martha’s life begins to come apart at the seams.

Gillian White’s Copycat is a biting suburban satire about a fraught relationship between frenemies taken to its most extreme conclusion.

The narrators are fabulous. I was initially annoyed by the narrator of Martha's chapters, until I realized it reflected her contempt for Jenny. 5 stars for both narrators

One of the creepiest stories I've heard in a long time.

This story was an intense case study of obsession and insanity. It keep your attention the whole way through and the ending was unexpected. Great listen!

Interesting character development between two women who start as friends, the husbands and children in their lives, and the descent into a very “unhealthy” relationship. Excellent narrators!

“Stalking”, psychopathy, misplaced love…

This was a great story that really seemed like a push-pull back and forth between the 2 women. The end was completely unpredictable!

excellent narration

The story was really good. The characters had depth. Some of the performance was a little annoying, but overall very good. It's definitely worth listening to.

Interesting characters!

It was a strange story, but interesting in a creepy way. The end was a weird twist

Weird and good.

I loved it. I wasn’t sure I would, but I gave it a go. I don’t want to give anything away but I like that rather than anyone being the hero or the villain, the author portrays the characters as human. I think many people have done things or thought things that they would be embarrassed to admit aloud or feel awkward in social situations. It is those portions of the book that made me laugh out loud or cringe with empathetic horror. Well done. The only reason I gave it less than 5 stars was because of the ending. It was still good, but I wanted more!!

A Different Twist on a Overdone Theme

This book had so many layers, and the narration added to it in a way that I feel simply reading the story wouldn't have been able to achieve. Hearing Martha's conceptualization of Jenny in Martha's own voice was very telling. I feel like we as listeners are meant to empathize with and root for Jenny while villainizing Martha, but I felt the opposite. They both had qualities that I found problematic, but I found Jenny someone that I ultimately could not get behind. I found the ending disappointing and felt the author could have done more to bring the ALL of the characters a resolution that made sense given the degree of investment required of us.

Friends..how many of us have them?

I think this story could be a winner but I tried 3 times to listen and I just don't know what they are talking about.....

Probably better to read
