Publisher's Summary

Malem has joined the forces of good and wages war against the vast host of Vorgon, the Balor who has come to destroy the world. Malem has four beautiful women fighting at his side, one of them a former general of Vorgon's army - a night elf tamed by his unique skill. He also has a few hill giants and other monsters ready to follow him to the gates of hell itself.

But it's not enough. The army of Vorgon stands poised to defeat the defenders. Despite Malem's powers and the unique magic and abilities his lovely companions bring to the table, the enemy has the advantage when it comes to sheer numbers: Vorgon's host stretches from horizon to horizon as far as the eye can see, painting the fields black.

Worst of all, he's still hunted by the Darkness: a curse laid upon him by Vorgon's predecessor. Its ghostly hands are always trying to drag him down to the underworld at the worst of times.

He's been running from the Darkness his entire life.

But now, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance, that running must stop.

It's time to stand and fight. It's time to face the Darkness. And save the world.

Note: This book contains harem elements.

Interesting World but Poor Execution

I enjoyed the first book because it seemed like a good story to build onto and expand so i was excited when the second book came out. However i was met with disappointment, the MC goes through impossible fight after impossible fight without ever really losing. There are a few issues here and there but realistically they are just small hurdles to push the length of the book. If you remove them, nothing would be really missed.

I hate stories that seem to make up stuff along the way and never have a soild mechanics system in place for how the world works. All of the MCs encounters go something like this- problem - gives reason why this problem exists - convenient explanation why that wont really be a problem - problem never really becomes a problem due to plot armor -

For example:
General is searching for him - the balor wants him dead really bad - general sends scouting groups out that are compiled of her people and local goblins to find the group and kill them while not having a plan layed out for the groups who do find them, to signal their location and at the same time still has enough people to seige a capital city, keep in mind this general is suppose to be one of the best and has led many battles against the human army so its either this just is an off day for her or humanity is stupid for letting a general with no idea what basic war tactics are to beat them but to explain the entirety of this plot hole the MC simply says she must not have enough people to scout out the entire forest, im calling bs - the MCs group proceeds to only encounter groups they can handle due to mcguffins and when are actually in danger, come out safe since the -insert generic boss type monster- that is attacking must be fighting for the first time and thinks like an AI on easy mode

I also really disliked the voice they had for the Dark Elf, i dont want every woman to sound like some princess and i have found great gruff women in audio books. Yet in this case the dark elf sounds so close to the main character i find myself mixing them up and thats an issue in two parts since one i get lost sometimes and two the woman sounds like she smoked a pack a day for all her life.

The story also doesnt give much detail for the companions along the way nothing really makes you care about them. They are all 2D characters that have a motivation and want sex and thats all there is to them for the most part.

Overall i would not recommend the 2nd book, i stopped 7 hours in because it felt so empty to listen to. A hero must fail at some point or there is no growth arc and experience loss or its just a teenagers day dream because no realistic story is filled with only happy endings where everyone lives and the hero always wins.

sequels are hard

This was a very good book considering it is hard to continue to carry a storyline and entertain to a second book. It gets easier from here

Monk

I know sex doesn’t make the Harem book, but for as aroused as the females make the MC all the time. 90% of the time when ASKED by any of the females for sex the MC turns them down for one reason or another. Even yelling at them at one point. They dress as monks a lot in this series so far and I think the author thinks the MC should be celibate without telling us.

good story. Only problem is

Everytime I find a book that's worth while the sequels are removed from audible. I'm guessing some feminist got offended but join the club. You know how many books I've bought and can't finish because of the feminist crap in them?

Not bad but narrator is limited!

Could do with two readers to give more range between characters. There are a lot of people and the narrator struggles to give more than 5 an real depth.
