Publisher's Summary

I don't recognize the damaged woman in the mirror staring back at me: platinum-blond hair, blood-red lips and nails, curves laced up in the finest lingerie. I have transformed into a bombshell to exonerate my brother, United States Navy SEAL Joaquín Cruz. He's been languishing in a jail cell for the past six months, accused of a murder he didn't commit, his honorable career as a SEAL ruined, his spirit crushed.

I've gone undercover as a stripper to entertain the men of SEAL Team Seven. I've given up my acting career, my dreams, my home, everything, in order to free Joaquín and discover the truth.

But I didn't count on having to conceal my identity from my ex-boyfriend, Navy SEAL Grant Carrion. The man I lost my virginity to was caught up in an endless web of sins and temptations, unable to escape from his demons.

As I strip down to my lingerie and dance for Grant, I know that every humiliating moment will be worth my sacrifice if I can give my brother his life back. And maybe I can find a way back to Grant's heart.

Captivating story

The only flaw I see with this is the length of this "book". If the author is planning to do a mini series they shouldn't take 7 months to release the next few chapters.

Aside from that it is a very good story and love the male narrators voice!

Can't wait for #2

Where does Conceit rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

For a novella it ranks right up there. It grabbed me from the beginning.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Conceit?

Can't say without giving the story away. You'll just have to read it for yourself.

What does Jennifer O'Donnell and Jason Clarke bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love listening to audio books as much as I love reading the written word. The difference is that when I read I'm guilty of skipping ahead but you just don't do it when you listen to a book, it makes your hang on every word and I liked the interpretation of these two narrators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes when I realised that I would have to wait until the next book comes out to find out what the heck is going to happen aaarrrtgggghhhh! I hate that.

Any additional comments?

Love the way this author sucks you in with strong but vulnerable characters that may not be totally broken but they sure as hell are bent. You don't necessarily like these characters but you get them and you can empathise even if they can't.

cliffhanger

This is the first book I've read by this author and it will be the last. The writing isn't bad, it also isn't terribly engaging, but I abhor authors who sell booklets as if they are books and then require you to buy 3 or more just to get the whole story. It feels like a money grab and I will not participate any more. screw this business model, I want my money back.

So Far, So Good

This promises to be a great series. I am glad it is included with my Audible Escape membership. Now, on to the second book in the series.

🎧 Mia and Grant 🎧

A repetitive and pedestrian set-up that could have been done in 3-4 chapters but has been stretched into a novella. Very little happens that isn't covered by the blurb and the prologue. Fine for a borrow on Audible Escape, but wouldn't be worth a credit.
Female narration is fine: not awful, but not great either, although she handles the Russian accent well. Jason Clarke was the reason I borrowed this audio, and while he is wonderfully understated as always, I was disappointed to find that he only narrates three (short)chapters. Another reason why it's not really worth a credit.

Silly and predictable

Suffice it to say, the plot is pure fantasy. And by that I mean that you seriously have to suspend your disbelief on this one.... the lengths the MC goes to to alter her appearance and go undercover is ridiculous. And there was very little about the female that I liked, character-wise or narrator. It's too bad she was the main focus because Jason Clarke's performance was the polar opposite, as always. Might have enjoyed it much more if he'd had more face time. However, even though it was super cheesy and totally unrealistic, I kept listening. Call me a sadist, but I might actually listen to the next one, too. (Just to get a little more Grant interaction)

Cliffhanger

The story was ok and the narrator was good. But I absolutely despise cliffhangers, I hate them. If I had known this was one, I'd have never borrowed it. And as soon as I realized I quit listening and returned the book. Which tells me the story wasn't good enough to overcome the cliffhanger.

Hooked

After reading Beast by Alana Albertson I knew I had to read more of her work. So I started with this story and wow... It is jaw dropping, engrossing, and totally addicting. The story she has plotting here is unbelievable and I can't wait for more! This is a MUST READ! The narrators do an outstanding job bringing this book to life!
