Publisher's summary

The final book in the emotional On My Knees series from USA Today best-selling author Ella James....

Finally, he's mine, and I can say that out in public.

Luke McDowell, one of the most beloved public figures in America, is mine. Forever.

At least that's what we said.

But love is different in the harsh glare of the spotlight. Sometimes it feels like the whole world's against us.

Now our unofficial honeymoon is over. Luke is back at Evermore, trying to live the life he had before he met me. Trying to say "yes" to his calling.

I can't tell how this will play out. We said vows down on the yacht, but we're not even legally married.

At the end of the day, I just want to make him happy - and be happy myself.

I know Sky will always have my heart, but can I keep his? Can we find a way to block out all the noise and build a life together?

Masterpiece

There are simply very few words that can truly do justice to this novel. In lieu of a more adequate word, I am forced to settle with the word “masterpiece.” Luke’s speech/talk at the Q &A should be taught in schools, homes and should be a must read for every person aspiring to an office of power in this country. The narrators were perfect. Anything Aiden Snow touches immediately becomes gold. Ella, you remind me of a quote I was taught sometime ago - “literature imitates life.” It was amazing to see how you woven certain topical elements of contemporary society Into this novel in a meaningful way. Issues of mental health, racism, the idea of “otherness.” You did all this in a very beautiful way. Definitely worth the credit.

Oh baby…

Long story short: the narration is amazing! A lot of the sex is hot! The conflict feels natural and real, my problem stems from a surprise that happens about halfway through the book and it turned me off so much I ended up returning it.

Long story long: SPOILERS!!!
Last warning spoilers ahead!
*Also this is only my opinion!

Everything makes sense story wise, the character evolution feels authentic. The struggles the hero’s have overcome so far feel devastating and honest. And then…
WHAM!!!!
Surprise baby!
Ugh I hated this for so many reasons. First it’s hard for me to read a book with raunchy sex scenes and then a few minutes later be cooing over a baby. That felt very weird.
Also, I feel like this “instant family” trope comes up a lot in lgbtq romances and I hate it. Not every person needs a baby to feel complete. Also, in reality adoption is a difficult process for anyone but especially lgbtq people because of prejudice.
Anyway… if you love baby’s great! If you love the book that’s great too, I loved the first two books but I just wanted to express why I did not love this book as much as the first two.

Wow! Please More!!!🔥❤️

Like Ezra’s and Josh’s story, Vance’s and Luke’s story had me so fully engrossed I’m sad it’s concluded (I hope only for now), and have to move on. I would so love to have more of each couple . . . maybe having them all come together, each with their own elevation in the storyline either working with the Rainbow Foundation, Vance’s father coming out, working with the kids in need of support, Ezra’s football career, Josh’s music exploration, etc. Just some ideas.

Ella James has done wonders to my soul with her writings of this series. I listen to many, many books, and I have not been touched so deeply in my soul like I have with Luke’s and Vance’s (and Ezra’s and Josh’s) stories in a long time.

Also, not being religious anymore, but instead more spiritual, I was fully engrossed with Luke’s struggle to clarity and Vance’s unrelenting unconditional love similarly to what Jesus taught. The exploration into “man’s religion“ vs. walking the path of Jesus, to love, support, give and forgive was a path I came upon in my own life. Raised in an abusive catholic boarding school, later baptized as a Christian, I found I had to walk away from the bigotry, cruelty, judgmental clones of “man’s religion“, and the very conditional interpretation of the Bible. Instead, to be a human living and accepting of all life.

Both Iggy and Aiden did spectacular performances. If I could give this series a higher rating I would.

Oh, forgot to mention that the sex in this series is hot, but funny how it doesn’t come off as anything but pure love of another. Still, quite sexy!

Too much sex

This was 80% sex, 10% sloppy plot, 5% where the baby came from, and 5% why have a gate if a random boy and long-lost dad show up! This book needed an editor and a better plot .....and oh, men are not capable of multiple organisms in less than 10 minutes!

Enough with the sex

I listened to the previous 3 books. Loved them. I think I might like the story line behind this book, but ENOUGH WITH THE SEX. A hot scene every once in a while is great, but I feel like this book could be cut in half if a quarter of the sex scenes were removed. It seems like Ella James got tired of creating good connections away from sex.

Loved it! A Must Listen!

Just when I thought this story couldn't get any better, here comes Ella James with another smoking hot book about Luke & Vance. I can't get enough of these two. Ella's words made me feel like I was in the room with them experiencing everything they were and it was insanely steamy & sexy. Thank you for giving us this final book in the On my Knees series. I absolutely loved it. Aiden Snow & Iggy Toma did an amazing job narrating!

What a waste of money

Do you want a romance or preached at for hours? Incredibly repetitive - all this story was about was characters' self-doubt, sex, and getting preached to about god and church, rinse and repeat. And turns out, unfortunately, that there is such a thing as too much sex. Especially when I didn't really feel any connection between L & V - only sex.

And what was the purpose of all the preaching? Know your audience! We are reading a MM book so I'm pretty sure we are okay with it.

Too many storylines that just sat around until the end where it was oops I better wrap up this now.

I don't think this is a spoiler but - did they just buy a baby? Gross.

Narration was great.

Perfect ending

Now Luke & Vance are together their lives are still not easy as the bigots are still determined to bring them down whatever it takes . Absolutely loved this trio I stayed up all night to finish them and both narrators were amazing .

More trials but a full on HEA to finish.

So Book 3 in this series is a little different to 1 and 2. Now Vance and Luke are well and truly a couple and this book follows the trials and tribulations that they have to weather. I really enjoyed the realness of this book. The emotions are raw and the situations Ella puts these two in are completely believable. We continue to see Vance being Luke’s rock but he’s pushed to his limits and Luke has to do a lot of soul searching in this one.

The thing I really enjoyed about this book wasn’t the spice (although the dirt is strong in this one and was delicious) but the life lessons that Ella writes into the story. This book is about societal pressures, bigotry and prejudice that the LGBTQIA+ community face every day, how to be more inclusive of all communities, it touches on some of the emotions that the trans community might feel when transitioning, it’s about love and relationships and family and how this looks different for everyone. It does have a religious element too but this didn’t feel like the main theme. It was incredibly well written and I’m sure it will be the subject of many discussions. This can only be a good thing. The more we can talk about all of this stuff, my hope is that society will progress and inclusivity for all will become the norm.

So be prepared to reflect after reading Communion, to think about how you perceive others, how you act with others, what you say to people and how it can affect them and enjoy this love that weathers all the storms.

Once again Iggy and Aiden do a fantastic job with the narration. Their performances were emotional, expressive and well rounded.

What a great end to a fantastic series.
