Publisher's Summary

Having been bolstered with the supplies sufficient to carry them through the winter, the survivors of the Jackson commune must now hunker down and endure the bitter Wyoming snows, while to the south, factions are beginning to form, coalescing from the ashes of the dead world.

Out in Arizona, the leftovers of the US Military encamped in the last known surviving tent city: the Elysium Fields.

In Nevada, a clan of scavengers grows ever larger, each day bringing them a step closer to collapsing under their own weight.

Resources are becoming scarcer by the day as the world trudges on, and as it so happens, the folks up in Wyoming appear to be sitting on prime real estate....

Hoping for book IV soon!

After reading books 1-3, I've given all three 5 stars across the board. Its a very believable apocalyptic theme with very life like character development (mostly) and story progression. You will become very interested in nearly all the characters as the story plays out from multiple perspectives- all of which are very well done. The narration is done by RC Bray who is THE reason I even discovered the series. He, like always, is brilliant in his portrayal of characters, moods, events.. I'll be waiting for book IV with great anticipation.

Not what I expected

Was really looking forward for the book but it was a little too slow for me. Disappointed with the story. Love RC Bray. He’s amazing.

WOW

WOW, simply WOW. From the excellent story, to the Top Notch narration I can not recomend this and the previous 2 parts of this story enough. I salute you Mr. Gayou and Mr. Bray for your team work on this series. I can't wait for the next installment.

Snore fest

I got very close to returning this one. That’s a shame because I enjoyed the first two books so much. Not sure if I’ll bother with the fourth book unless feeling extremely masochistic. The only saving grace here was the narrator.

not worthy of a third book.

didn't build on the previous 2 books. In fact contradicts the other two in some ways. was more of an attempt to build tension so you'd but the fourth when it comes out. Very very very disappointing.

Love This Series - But Book 3 is a Waste of Time

Publishers are forcing authors with a successful first book to push their storylines out to four or more books versus the standard trilogy. The result is often unsatisfying, go no place, books like this one. Literally nothing of substance happened in this book - NOTHING! The first half was spent simply licking the wounds from all the action at the end of the 2nd Book. The second half was spent setting the stage for the 4th Book. Gayou is an outstanding writer and the amazing ability of R.C. Bray goes without saying, but frankly everything that happened in this book could of been condensed into one or two chapters in a true final book. So I hate to be critical because I have enjoyed this series and like where the storyline is going; but publishers need to quit forcing authors to S T R E T C H things way out when they don't have the depth of content to make a meaningful book.

So, my recommendation is to pay your dues, buy the book, and try to stay awake for 18 hours. That way we can all hopefully enjoy an amazing forth book. We are counting on you Josh!!!

Best one yet!

Great series with great characters. I've never had a book that could make me laugh or make me cry. This series has done both of those things. R.C Bray delivered another excellent performance! Joshua Gayou has a lifelong fan in me!

Character development boredom

This is like those character development episodes on great sci-fi tv shows that don’t progress the storyline and just prattle on about each character instead. I’m half way through and going for the audible refund on this and #4. Loved 1 and 2 and will re-listen those at some point but the story ended at 2

You'll Regret It

Book One is decent, a bit rough and amateurish, but easily saved and made enjoyable by Bray.

Book Two a decent tale that Bray turns into a wonderful experience.

The business of conceiving and telling a story in Book Three is a monumental disappointment. It's not typos at fault nor disagreeable conclusions nor even ugly events. It's just a badly designed novel. At its best it's somewhat salvaged by Bray, at its worst, it's so badly assembled even Bray struggles to bring his magic—given some the pulp garbage I've heard Bray wade through with pure professionalism, that's a very low bar.

Book 3 in a 4 book trilogy..

I bought all 3 books together thinking this was the entire series, but the author admitted at the start of book 3 that in fact there would be a fourth book because book 3 was getting too big. Slightly annoying, but I'd prefer the author gave us the full story rather than edit it down just to get it in 3 books. And frankly it's a brilliant series and worthy of another book.

The writing is really rather good, the plot, although constrained by the genre, is good enough, but what really stands out are the characters and the superbly written dialog. You can definitely see them acting their part in your minds eye. And this of course is helped by the always excellent narration of RC Bray. When Bray is performing Gibbs, you will laugh hard and long at some of the lines. Great lines, well researched and expertly performed..

I heartily recommend this series, but maybe wait for book 4 to be published if like me, you like to listen to a series from start to finish.

And where is book 4? Come on Mr Josh and Mr Bray.. I'm on tenterhooks here..

Absolutely outstanding

These no part of this book I didn’t like.
The new charterers were great and added a new dynamic to the story .

R C Bray is one of the best narrators around . Every charter he brings to life in a unique way

Please hurry with the next book

Not as good as the other two books

This book feels like more of a filler between the last book and the next one.

It’s disappointing but I’ve no choice now but to buy the final book

Would have preferred more action

Good but some slightly uncomfortable bits

the overall story is good (and r c bray is brilliant as always), but there are some uncomfortable sections, Alishe and Tom and the whole Lizzie learning to shoot,; has the author ever met an 8 year old girl? this came across weird and a bit creepy

Great set of book ruined by some tiresome dialogue

At the beginning of book three the author informs you that the final two books are the story he wanted to right and that he wanted it to be one book, but it was too long. I am not sure if it was too long due to the lenghty dialogues from some of the characters or if these had been added to pad two books out. Anyhow even delivered by the ever brilliant R C Bray these became annoying and ruined an otherwise enjoyable set of books.

Hence the three stars for story.

Another great story

The Commune series is one of the best survivalist/apocalyptic series out there. Skip the author's notes at the beginning though! They should be at the end of the book. I feel it gave away too much. I was anticipating and guessing at what the author was referring to throughout the book. Otherwise a great read.

Good to a point

All 3 so far are fabulously preformed and written... Worth listening to just for the creative swearing.... But I do get caught up in the end of the world ideas and disappointed a few keys aren't focused on that wouldn't hurt the story... Chickens would be savour of any group - worth fighting .. Where are all the cattle ??...wild dogs would be a serious problem.... And solar panels would be gold chips

The introduction of clay is a masterwork

Never once have I actually felt the pain of a character in a story until clays first scene. I felt like I was back in my teenage years waking up after a night of way too much drinking.

Joshua deserves an award for this series. Truly great writing and storytelling. Don't think I need to say anything about bray, we all know.

Gayou and Bray - a dynamic duo

This was my favourite book of the series so far. There were a couple of patches that seemed like unnecessary fillers, but it was more than made up for with the complexity and detail that author and narrator bring to the characters. A riveting listen, so I am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

I got 12 hours in, but I'm done...

First of all, narration is great as always from Bray.

The writing is good quality too.

I enjoyed the first book, thought the second was a bit of a drag with the new characters, but was ok. This third book though has been just boring from start to where I left it.

There is no linear progression of plot in this book. It jumps around between various characters and goes into ultra detailed descriptions about their lives, sometimes Commune time, sometimes before. That's basically it.

The scenes go on forever and drag out. I love slow reads normally, but slow is a building thing usually. Nothing really builds on this book to me. I don't care for any characters, I don't really learn much about them either with all the detailed dialogue etc sapping my interest.
