Publisher's summary

From Lewis Black, the uproarious and perpetually apoplectic New York Times best-selling author and Daily Show regular, comes a ferociously funny book about his least favorite holiday, Christmas.

Passing the torch

Before his death, the great George Carlin said Lewis Black was his favorite comedian out there today and books like this clearly show that Carlin was right. Extremely funny and Black as the narrator is great!

Disapointing Offering from Lewis

Any additional comments?

Lewis Black is a funny guy. However in the introduction to the rambling and somewhat unfocussed book, he complains he has nothing to say on this subject. and he was right! This could be whittled down to an essay, the funny bits are far and few between.

Seemed a little forced (though he warns you)

I really like Lewis' insight, but it seems a little stretched out over an entire book. He warns at the beginning that he didn't really want to do this book with a whole "My agent says I should write a book" story. At first it seemed like just an anecdote to start the book...but then I really believed that he was doing it just for the money.

Eventually, he gets into some interesting insights and commentary on modern society. But nothing really earth shattering or amazing, but somewhat amusing. The story he shares to end it was definitely the highlight for me - the real example of the meaning of the season and how it is not really tied to religion (Surprise!).

His narration is fine. I don't think it would work to have anyone else doing it, but it is hard to maintain the Lewis Rage for 5 hours.

Surprisingly personal and still great comedy

Having been a supporter of Lew’s career since he started the daily show, he often leaves the dark parts out of his act and understandably so.
This is not your heart warming Christmas book with happy holidays stories. It was never meant to be that kind of book. I have heard him share bits of personal info here and there on stage, however this is a book of his personal highs and lows. Still filled with great Lewis Black humor to keep you listening.
I laughed. I cried, then laughed some more.
If I ever have the chance to attend a show and meet him, I would politely ask if I could give him a hug unless Covid decides to rob me of my joy.
I would hug him just from what he revealed personally in this book. It was my first thought- oh dear Lew (hug)
Lewis Black is definitely a comedy legend/icon already. If you don’t like his humor then obviously isn’t a book for you and none of George Carlin’s.
If you have issues with profanity then most comedians’ books would be a hard pass for you.
If you are a fellow fan, definitely read/listen made even better with him reading it. It’s like adult story time!

definitely not a rant

this is an excellent book too damn short but it was only a buck and a half. and of course brought to an old me the way Lewis Black could do it. it definitely shows a charitable and humble side of the man someone that's not always bitching. Louis you're one of my favorite assholes keep it up and I'm talking about your act they have pills for the other thing x's and o's and a big f*** you

Wheetabix! Thanks for more memories.

Lewis: I was a Lockheed C-141b flight engineer in Desert Storm from 1991 - 1994. Thank you and your colleagues for taking the time and for risking your own personal safety to support and entertain my fellow military sisters and brothers.

Lewis Black Doing What He Does Best

Lewis Black, What can I say that may have been said all ready in some previous review by someone more qualified then I. Well.. let’s just say, that if you’ve read or listened to any of his previous books, you kind of know what your in for. This time around, Lewis & his trademark angry, rage filled comedy take on X-Mas. Now he doesn’t completely tear it to shreds & leave you wondering yourself about ur own stance on the holiday. No, what does is weaves in between his grudges, stories. Stories about going to friends houses in New York I want to say, to celebrate with them & their family & other friends. Also while telling the reader about what is going on, he kind of bares his inner soul a little bit, by playing the “what if game”. After he’s had his fill of those stories & regrets, he moves onto the last USO show that he did previous to this book, or at least the last one that made an impression on him. All in all, as interesting as it may be, to hear an older angry Jewish man/comedian rage on about the holidays, he sometimes relaxes a little & moves onto something else.

Another Lewis Black

Found that after an hour or so of listening to Lewis Black the words kind of run together. He is funny but this was a bit on the dark side.
