Publisher's summary

What do you do when your psychotic grandmother also happens to be Mab, the mad queen of the Winter Court of the Faerie, who has you and your friends imprisoned after you invade her realm searching for the long-lost sister you never knew you had?

Well, if you're Bubba the Monster Hunter, you break out of prison, have a dance-off in the middle of a ball, and enter a mortal combat tournament against magical beasties.

If you're not Bubba, then I don't know what you'd do!

In part two of Bubba the Monster Hunter: Season 4, Bubba's adventures in Fairyland continue as he picks right up where the action in Into the Mystic left off. Join Bubba, Skeeter, Amy, and Father Joe as they try to navigate court politics and the image of Bubba in doublet and hose to find and rescue his sister, Nitalia.

Cold as Ice is part two of a four-part story line, beginning with Into the Mystic. These linked novellas will form Bubba the Monster Hunter: Season 4.

Bubba recues Bertha from Ice Queen!

If you are up on all things Bubba thus far, then you know that his fey sister has gone missing, and when he, Skeeter, Amy, and Father Joe made their way into Fairy to iniate a rescue they were nabbed by Bubba's grandmother, Queen Mab. Mab, being Mab, opts to torture her grandson and his friends while brainwashing her daughter, Bubba's momma. This means our favorite quartet has to break out, battle their way through a castle full of dangers, break the enchantment on Bubba's estranged mother, and locate his sister. All without Bertha. Mab has taken Bubba's beloved blaster!

This novella is full of funny bits, and fantastic action scenes. In what other book series would you find a priest that is willing to do some dirty dancing or fire off one putrid butt bomb that burns out Bubba's nose hairs? Any continues to be the girl I always wanted to date, and Skeeter tries to keep everyone straight (metaphorically) as best he can. I really enjoy Hartness's writing style, the mixture of fun and adventure is always perfectly balanced and Bubba's voice is unique and distinctive among the passel of standard protagonists out there today.

One thing I will say is that I am enjoying the escalation in the quality of the book covers as the series progresses. The early book covers were funny and simple, but since the start of the introduction of the fairies into Bubba's life the artwork has just been phenomenal. I'd like to see this trend continue.

Solo continues to amaze me, and it throws me off when he actually uses his own voice instead of Bubba. He takes to the character so naturally that it feel like his speaks that way naturally. He continues to impress with his vocal skills, and giving each character their own distinctive voice, both male and female, so that when you hear them speaking you know who they are immediately. He also has some serious comedic timing, and is the only narrator I know that can tell you about some flatulence filling the air without making it come off as childish. I have said it before, and will continue to say it, Solo embodies Bubba in voice and spirit.

As far as things go, the story continues to impress and progress in a satisfying manner. I really can't wait to see what Hartness has up his sleeve next, and anticipate the final showdown between our man, Bubba, and Robin Goodfellow. I know it will be explosive and funny as hell, and will be something I don't want to miss. Neither should you! Go out and get this series from volume one all the way up till now, the ride will be like skateboarding on a rollercoaster track; going at breakneck speeds, facing unforeseen dangers, wrought with twists and turns, and maybe it will even through you for a loop and you won't even have a safety harness to keep you tucked in nice and safe. Don't wait. Don't miss out. Go and start the misadventures today!!

Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Cold as Ice

This book is very much like the others from this author. The humor and narration keeps listeners from turning away however. John Solo is an amazing narrator with so many distinctive voices to match each character. He also is able to maintain those character voices from book to book. Well done!

So good, but missing when these were a "season"

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

It is no surprise to me that this is a fantastic novella in the Bubba the Monster Hunter series. I just wish they were longer... or that the author would put them out in seasons again. Only getting a couple hours of Bubba, Amy, Uncle Father Joe and Skeeter just isn't enough. Mr. Hartness and Mr. Solo need to hurry up and finish more books!

A Great Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher and found it very entertaining. What do you get when you mix a Redneck Monster Hunter and a Faerie Queen? Lots of excitement and humour. Bubba tales are always a good time with unique characters and a fast paced plot, you'll just keep listening. John G. Hartness is one of my new favourite authors.

Humans in Fairyland

The narrator did an excellent job portraying Bubba, a redneck from Georgia in Fairyland. If you are into fighting, beheading with laughs thrown in then you will enjoy this audiobook.

Looking Forward To More Of Bubba!!

Cold As Ice was my first Bubba the Monster Hunter read and it was great. The stories can be read as stand alones but I am looking forward to going back and reading/listening to the others. Bubba is your typical red neck and has a unique perspective on life and Monster Hunting that is enjoyable to the reader. The narrator does a great job at bringing Bubba and the story to life.

Fun and entertaining novella.

I enjoyed this audio book about a half fae/ human from Georgia that goes to the land of the Fae to find his kidnapped sister. The characters are unusual and likable.I think the narrator did a good Georgia red neck accent.
I voluntarily reviewed this audio book after receiving an advanced copy that I requested.

Bubba to the Rescue

I have to say I love Bubba , Skeeter, and Father Joe they are all lovable and crazy and enjoy their monster hunting but this is a little different as it has fairies which was ok but not my favorite. This book is where Bubba has to fight to save his mother under his evil grandmother’s control. Keep them coming and recommend to anyone who enjoys fun characters especially read by John Solo as he is Bubba. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. THANK YOU
