Publisher's summary

The #1 New York Times bestselling series continues as Mitch Rapp faces off with Russia in this high-octane installment that is “ripped straight from next week’s headlines” (The Real Book Spy).

Mitch Rapp hates owing anyone a favor—especially when it’s the world’s most powerful crime lord. But when Damian Losa calls, Mitch is honor bound to answer.

The Syrian government has created a highly addictive new narcotic that it plans to distribute throughout Europe. It’s a major threat to Losa’s business and he’s determined to stop it by any means necessary. Rapp is the perfect choice for the mission. Not only does he have extensive experience operating in the Middle East, but he’s also entirely expendable.

As he crosses into war-torn Syria, Rapp quickly discovers a shocking truth. The new drug isn’t being produced by Damascus to prop up the government’s collapsing finances. Instead, it was created by Russia’s asymmetrical warfare unit as a weapon against the West.

With far more than Damian Losa’s interests at stake, Rapp devises a desperate plan that forces him and his team onto a battlefield where the United States is virtually powerless, and allegiances shift almost hourly. Further, if Russia uncovers their plot, it will set off a confrontation between the two countries that could change the course of history in this “bullet train to high adventure” (Townhall).

Weakest in the series

OK, It's Mitch Rapp, so I'm not saying it's bad, but it is certainly not as good as the previous stories. I'm sure a lot has to do with the change in narrator, after years of listening to George Guidall. Steven Weber is OK, but he doesn't sound like Mitch. The story is also not on par with previous stories. I want to be as fair as I can, but when you have been following a character for 21 previous books and then you make significant changes, it has an impact. Hoping the next story is able to rebound. Mitch is one of my most favorite characters and I hate to see him fade out. This is not a Vince vs Kyle thing, because Kyle has written some awesome books over the past few years. I look forward to the next installment to see where things go.

Rapp Pays back an IOU and it all goes FUBAR

CIA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp has a man that he gave an IOU too call it in. That man is Mexican billionaire Damian Losa is one of the biggest and powerful criminals in the world. He wants him to go into Syria and look into a new drug they are distributing. It's costing him tons of money and he wants who is really behind it and make a deal where they can both make money.

But Rapp finds out that it isn't the Syrian government that is really behind the drugs. It's the Russians and they want to perfect it and ship it to America. With it being addictive and people doing anything to get the next hit, the drug is said to cause irreversible brain damage and killing large numbers! Russia wants to import it to the west and take America out! Can Rapp find the ones calling the shots and stop it at the same watching his back because he knows he can't trust Losa?

A great book to end the Era of Kyle Mills writing the Mitch Rapp books! I look forward to see where author Don Bentley takes The best Protagonist in books next!
I want to thank Vince Flynn's family, Kyle, Atria books, Simon & Schuster, Emily Bestler Books and soon to be Don for Keeping Mitch Rapp in the fight!

not my favorite Mitch rap book

I have really enjoyed Mills's writing before he wrote on this series, but was very disappointed with this story. The narration wasn't my favorite either.

Fair…….

I’ll steal what another person said, “It felt as if Kyle mailed this one in”. The story itself was “fine”, but the intensity we are so used to with the series was gone. Mitch felt as if he was almost bored himself as I was most of the time.

As for the narrator, he does a really good job with accents for other characters, but the voice of Mitch Rapp and other key characters, he is not. Actually, had to laugh at another review stating it seemed like a “college frat boy”, not far off. Sadly, the only true voice for Mitch is George Guidall.

Go into this one with open eyes. It’s pretty boring if you have listened to all of the other books in the series.

Hope the new author for the series does a great job as I love love love the character Vince built.

Reader makes the character

The switch to a new reader from George Guidall is unfortunate. Mitch Rapp has a persona well established in the previous books in the series. Now the old Mitch is gone and the new one is not much.

This switch to a new reader is almost as bad as putting Scott Brick's melodramatic style on Jack Reacher!!

Great way for Mills to go out

I was unsure of how this was gonna tie in ti Oath, and it was done very well. Typical fantastic story with some good turns and tons of action. Initially had a distaste for the narration but it grew on me. Guidall is unquestionably the voice of Rapp, but there was good effort put into the different accents, and ultimately did a pretty good job. Great book, now let’s hope the passing of the torch doesn’t spell the end of the series.

Good Plot

Very good Rapp adventure. Believable, Russians would try to manipulate a drug to their advantage.

This book was good. Not great but good.

PLEASE BRING BACK GEORGE.
I didn’t mind it. But it was nothing like normal. You can’t have the legendary Mitch Rapp without George doing the narration of it. This book seemed a little rushed. Just to get a book out on time. Not up to the level most of the books are. But that could also just be my expectations of the series now. But even with that being said. I still would recommend it. And still liked it.
