Publisher's summary

From the authors of the best-selling series CHERRINGHAM

Kat brings Harry across the Atlantic to New York for a planned whirlwind time in her home town - complete with a lavish suite at the Plaza. But when Teddy Crowther - grandson of a wealthy City magnate - is snatched by the mob, the pair is asked to help. As Prohibition New York swelters in a heatwave, the Mortimers soon find themselves playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse, not just with the kidnappers, but also the rest of the Crowther family, all of whom have everything to gain - and maybe lose - if Teddy is found ...

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series Piece of Cake. He is also the lead in the BBC series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

"You had me' at the jingle.

Another relaxing, engaging mystery from these authors. The narrator's auditory chocolate and excellent character individuation is integral to enjoyment.

*****
This installment skips over the ocean crossing on the Mauritania and starts after Harry and Kat arrive in NYC. Before they even have a chance for Kat to show Harry around her hometown, they are asked to help a wealthy family whose youngest has been kidnapped and ransom demand has been made. They reluctantly agree and give the case their considerable attention and expertise (complete with chases, mobsters, and a shootout!).
Whether you've kept up with this series, haven't read one in over a year, or never read one at all, I guarantee that you'll be as caught up in this one as I was.
Nathaniel Parker brings the characters alive and keeps the accents different enough to make it easy to know which character is speaking as well as adding to the suspense!

Another enjoyable listen

If you've enjoyed the other audiobooks in the Mydworth series, you'll probably like this one. It's a little different because it's all set in New York, so some new characters. Nathaniel Parker seemed to have fun with the New York accents and it was entertaining to listen to him. I like the writing in these short stories as they get both the British and American phrasing and cultural references correct. Thanks to the authors and the narrator - here's to many more.

One of the best

It took me a while to warm up to this series since I love the Cherringham series by the same authors so much. I still like Cherringham better but this was charming and intriguing and definitely the best of this series. The narrator has improved on his American accent quite a bit too.

Good story. Great reader!

Typical Mydworth story - pretty good mystery, with good characters. I was worried that Mr. Parker would struggle with an entire novel's-worth of New York accents but he did a yeoman's job. I'd pay good money to watch a video of him recording a few of the scenes though.

A real Good Mystery

This is a truly enjoyable mystery story with characters you will grow to love. They are smart, with wonderful sense of humor. And of course just enough Love to keep it all interest. These books take you right back to the mid to late 1920’s ! You’ll enjoy.

Rather lame story compared to previous in series.

I used to really enjoy these characters, perhaps I am just losing interest in this series. I feel this was a waste of a credit.
