Tooth Achingly Sweet

I echo all that has been said before and the hours really flew by on this. Main character is nice and it’s a cute change of pace from super dark main characters or harem or a lot of dumb bro jokes.

As an introvert and someone who worked retail for 15 years and now hates people Broccoli did start to grate on me as we got around more and more people and she practically greeted everyone with ‘Hi I’m Broccoli, and we’re going to be BEST FRIENDS.’ Just cringe at the thought of being on the other side of that. Also why does she need friends so badly? That single minded FRIENDS focus is a little creepy to me on a personal level lol

starts fantastic, gets annoying

I had hoped this was going to be like B.Medrano's "Sting and Song", whose MC is also voiced by Reba Buhr and was cute, positive and heartwarming.

this MC thinks she is, and the author thinks that as well... but it comes across as fake and put on.

she's not nice and positive, just dumb and pseudo happy go lucky as long as her full steam ahead attitude doesn't get her in trouble.

what's even worse is that she agonizes over getting kidnappers killed who in their own words promised her to " kill her slowly".

that's when the author completely lost me. Joy in Sting and Song is always nice, but stops being nice if someone tries to kill her and she doesn't agonize over other people's poor choices or that victimizers got what they deserve.

this MC here is basically a sociopath. she talks about feelings, but the whole book (even the excellent first half) makes her sound hollow and calculating.

she achieves things by manipulating others or begging for help, then whines about what happens to the people opposed to her. just to "make sure" everyone understands she is not approving of what she begged and manipulated for.

the classic never to blame but responsible for everything.

she has a learned set of behaviors (very this world social convictions about a lot of -ists and -isms) she applies to everything, but she feels more for dead kidnappers than for their victim, it feels like.

she can't see the difference between bad and good things, or that bad actions have bad consequences.

it's like watching an AI doing things and making completely odd moral judgments that clearly stem from a lack of emotional understanding or empathic ability.

that's how "cinnamon bun" the MC feels like. it is really off putting after you figure out how she judges things and how she behaves.

it's soulless and nasty, just with a ton of sugar

the absolute worst is when she whines nonstop over the span of 20m and apologizes to the kidnappers and whines some more that she is going to be forced to force them to stop forcing others to.... that's how this book feels after a while.

just an emotional outlet for the author to show what a good person she created or something...

oddly enough, when nobody is watching, like in the first dungeon, she has zero moral issues poisoning and murdering.

I don't ever want to meet the author in person.

A very good listen and an adorable MC!

The premise is unique and the descriptions are well done! If you're look a LitRPG without a murderhobo MC, this is literally the story for you. Seriously, Broccoli is such a sweet character... in such a sharp contrast to how bitter the vegetable is in real life! And the voice actor, as expected, conveys her personality and emotions very well. 5/5 all throughout.

Canadian LitRPG

One of the best LitRPG books I've listened to on Audible. I think Ravensdagger may have just invented a new genre, Canadian LitRPG. Frogs with french accents, killing mobs with kindness.. the only thing missing is a Tim Hortons.

a 'nice' girl taken too far

the story is decent if you can ignore how the MC is 'nice' to the point of letting things hurt her before she sees anything as a threat. She is clearly shown that there are people that are not willing to talk and only want to hurt her, yet she still blindly believes that she can make a friend with anything in a world that is clearly far more brutal than the one she came from.

The definition of a sweet summer child!

This a great book for anyone between the ages of 14 to 40 because it is extremely light hearted with a main caricature you can't help but like played to perfection by the narrator
. and while before a silly story a lot of the time it has some jokes slid in their for older audiences. (such as a magical wand that cures hysteria... lady's look at your night stand and you will get it.)

All in all if you are looking for a story that will brighten your day be entertaining. this is for you

great performance of a good book

I feel like the performance by the narrator really brought this book to life. I was engrossed throughout the book. If you are looking for something fun, light hearted, and a nice change of pace fine other LITrpgs I would highly recommend this book.

Wow! This book is good!!

I’m a huge fan of LitRPG books and this has been one of the best ones yet. The world is explained very well. Combat is great, while not being the main focus of the story. And the skills and spells are very unique and used in unique ways. 100% recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one.

thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a great story that is very different from most Litrpg out there.
The protagonist is not only female but also very girly.
A far cry from the majority of male Protagonist or butchy female protagonist.

The story is very creative and enjoyable with lots of fun characters with quirky personalities.

The only weak spot is the Litrpg elements which I normally deduct stars for but the story is so fun it made up for this weakness.

Fun little romp around a fantasy world

The narrator was excellent. I admit I've only listened to a couple hours however I'd previously read the book elsewhere.

A good performance wasted on an awful book.

So I really liked Stray Cat Strut and decided to give this one a try. Unfortunately the main character is just... so awfully one dimensional. I kept hoping she'd get better, or develop more but she didn't. Towards the end she confronts some people who kidnapped her friend and even though they're threatening to cut parts off her friend this idiot is there trying to apologize and make friends with them... after already fighting them previously. There's basically no development to be seen.

how is this so good?

I mean, it's all I usually don't like: cringe inducing naivete, silly motivation,s and more.

yet it is so incredibly honest, and the main character is so true to herself it just makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

I'm not used to being warm and fuzzy inside.

Pretty good

Seems an interesting world, but no major long-term threats.
The last word was, literally, cliffhanger.

ok

I enjoyed the world building and the feeling of lighthearted adventure. the narrations is great.
However the MC as the story progresses came across as more judgmental and intrusive than actually nice. She tends to push her own ideals onto those around her. It is subtle though. like her reprimanding of people who do not follow her idea of not being 'rude'.
It just did not come across as being genuinely nice. it is a very shallow, one size fits all type of niceness rather than an understanding of different types of people, and then appreciating them as friends.
But than again, she is young and immature - i will still read the next book and see if there is any depth to character or growth.

A refreshing entry in the litrpg genre

This was a joy to listen to, the characters are endearing and the world is interesting to learn about. It's a slow burn but that's part of the charm this book offers, it's a refreshing change of pace from the usual hyperactive high stakes stories that many litrpgs fall into.

Glad

Just found Cinnamon Bun while perusing audible for new LitRPG. Wasn't sure about it but purchased the first one a few days ago to test it knowing I could get a refund if I didn't like it. Turns out I love it. Just finished volume 1 and have the other 2 ready to go. Hear the 4th is coming to audible in Dec. It's quite different to other LitRPGs like He Who Fights With Monsters, Defiance of the Fall, etc. Maybe closer to The Wandering Inn. Hmm. So it's like finding a whole other side to LitRPGs. Thank you for writing this. Makes my life a little bit better, having Cinnamon Bun in it :P

A playful tale narrated beautifully.

I have a soft spot for characters who are impossibly nice sweethearts who want only the best for everyone, and another soft spot for characters who are very brave by virtue of being just a little too dumb to realise how much danger they're in. This is a story about a girl who is both of these people, and it's deeply entertaining to hear about her and her path of benevolent destruction through an unsuspecting fantasy world.

The plot itself is somewhat meandering- There's not even really a particular goal in mind throughout the story, with the protagonist just kinda moving where the wind takes her and taking it one day at a time- but it's a meandering plot in a fairly interesting world, so I was never bored. The story is generally pretty light and bubbly, but things do get a little dark and dangerous at times.

Reba Buhr did a wonderful job with narration- her character voices turn even unimportant characters into people I'd love to stay and chat with. I highly recommend this one.

Breath of Fresh Air

If you want a mix up from your usual murder hobo spell sword garbage,
you'll be plesently surpised.
Honestly the best female voice actor I've heard in this genre,
Wouldn't recommend if you dislike ironically bad French accents lol.
