Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever.

Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.

Meanwhile, Margot, a social worker, must handle the influx of desperate, pregnant teenage boys suddenly seeking her help. When she receives a call from James with the same problem, the challenge of navigating post-Roe America hits even closer to home.

Dear Listener,

"Ever since hearing about the imminent overturn of Roe v. Wade, I have struggled to find a way to do more than rage against the system. I did what I always do when I’m upset—I wrote. But that wasn’t enough, and Audible understood my urgency to make an actual difference. To that end, I have donated Audible’s payment to me for this story entirely to the National Network of Abortion Funds, which remove logistical and financial barriers to abortion in a multitude of states where access to abortion is restricted or banned. Please listen, and tell your friends to listen, and if you are so inclined, donate to a fund of your own choosing that will continue to help women make choices about their own bodies." – Jodi Picoult, writer of Choice

Please listen and tell your friends to listen. As a mother grandmother and long time pro-choice activist, I have been feeling burned out on the news. This made me laugh and see things from a different perspective.
Thank you to the author and all involved in this production.

So a subject, I downloaded this bc of my love for the author. What a different thought process some would have if this situation could come into existence. Regardless of how anyone feels about the topic; instead of judging others about the most personal and intimate of decisions, until placed in this actual situation, I can speculate how it would play out in my own life; but not until I am dropped into THIS situation can I say 100% of how I would decide. Thank God I didn’t get pregnant by rape or incest bc I don’t think I would want to live to carry a baby full term. NO OPTIONS is not an option. Abortion isn’t going to be eradicated like a disease, the numbers won’t lessen. Instead more women will die from back alley abortions and unsanitary attempts leading to more death of young women. If men are going to decide; let them carry the little bundle for 9 months.

If ONLY….!!

I love hearing from the detractors that whinge about this short story being a liberal hit job when in fact Ms Picoult is just stating the truth. Were men the ones dealing with pregnancy, abortions would be available at drive-thru windows.
I'm surprised she didn't write a longer book that could dig deeper into the other awful things that can happen to women these days with their reproductive rights stripped. For starters when (small spoiler) the man lost his baby and was forced to carry a dead fetus she could have gone into detail about how the man could face prosecution after being accused of tampering with the pregnancy. And all it would take was some clown looking to collect a bounty.
Men need to stand with women for abortion rights. This affects us all. Maybe when, for fear of pregnancy, women refuse to have sex anymore men will remember they too have a voice.

Could Have Been A Book

In light of recent events, this would be the only circumstance that would change the minds of those who would deny women bodily autonomy.
