Publisher's summary

Life was never boring in Defiance!

Excerpt: "Our class went to the school library for a research project. As I was looking for a book, a note that was folded up like a football flew over the top of a six-foot-high bookshelf and landed at my feet. It was a request for my friend Cindy and me to go on a double date with Randy and his best friend, Tim.

The following day, a five-pound bag of sour balls mysteriously appeared in my locker, along with another note requesting a date. I found out where Randy's locker was and returned the candy, along with a note saying that Cindy and I had to work on Friday night, so we could not go on a date with them. A day or two later, the persistent guys asked where we worked, and I told them we worked at Murphy's in Defiance. (I actually did work there, but Cindy didn't have a job.)

I thought that was the end of them, until they showed up at Murphy's on Friday night and tried to talk to me while I was working. I didn't even know Randy's name yet. He had been signing the notes with his nickname, "Preacher Boy." Randy found out where I lived, and on Good Friday, he dropped by my house unexpectedly. When I opened the door, my hair full of bright pink plastic curlers that were as large as orange juice cans, there he was, asking me to join him for a cruise through downtown Defiance..." Did Randy's persistence pay off?

Cherished Cats

A fun read, reminiscing about days gone by and animals long gone.John David does a fine job narrating but I would have expected a woman to read a womans memories.I was given this book for an honest review.

Have to love the authors passion!

The narrator does an excellant job in bringing the authors passion for life to the fore.
Again the reader discovers the authors passion for life, love and the animals that have and are sharing her life!

Laugh Out Loud Funny Memoir

What made the experience of listening to Cherished Cats and Childhood Capers the most enjoyable?

I listened to this as an audiobook but found myself stopping doing other things often just to focus on the capers and situations being described.
It was literally laugh out loud funny.

The only thing I may have done differently would have been to use a female narrator. The gentleman did a wonderful job, but it is a tale told through a young girls eyes.

The setting is Ohio, and I grew up in Wisconsin. I could relate to SO MUCH in this memoir. From playing outside until after dark, to family road trips where Dad did not want to stop for bathroom breaks, to talk about the pets, and, oh yes, the giant pink foam curlers.

This is a book I am glad to have in audio format as I will enjoy it again and again while driving.

What other book might you compare Cherished Cats and Childhood Capers to and why?

She has the wit and storytelling abilities of Bill Cosby

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was literally laughing out loud. The dogs was looking at me funny.
I could relate to so much in her storyline. And it was funnier the way she tells it.

Any additional comments?

I will be listening to this many times.
It is a great book to have for road trips.
