Good card based LitRPG.

What a great start to a series!
This is a pretty good card based LitRPG. They seem to be hit or miss and this one's definitely a hit.
Young thief, living in the slums, finds a power card and now can try to fulfill his dreams of becoming an outlaw card fighter. But there's no small supply of those that wish to have his card, and aren't afraid to kill him for it.
Looking forward to book 2.
I'm giving this book 8 out of 5 stars.

Deck building

This was my first book to read with "cards," and I quite enjoyed it. Dax is the kind of character that you can root for. I appreciated the wider world, exposed through the additional points of view. Also, I love a scrappy kind of hero, and street rats are certainly that. His card being so random really made this a fun read as well. Both author and narrator were new to me, but both did a great job engaging me and keeping me engaged throughout the story.
