From the New York Times bestselling author of Hounded—“a superb urban fantasy debut” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)—comes an Iron Druid Chronicles short story in the captivating Carniepunk anthology.

The ancient Druid Atticus O’Sullivan gets more than greasy corn dogs and flat soda when he visits a carnival in Kansas to which his apprentice, Granuaile, drags him. He runs across a barker with a strange power over the crowd: attractive women leave their men and disappear into an unmarked tent, never to be seen again, and the men wander away, forgetting that they ever had girlfriends or wives. When Granuaile falls under the barker’s influence and enters the tent, Atticus isn’t about to forget it and move on. He and his Irish wolfhound, Oberon, pursue her and discover the horrifying secret to the carnival’s success.

I've nothing against this narrator. I'm sure he would have been just fine in any other story. But he's not Luke Daniels. OK, no one is Luke Daniels except Luke Daniels, it's impossible shoes to fill, but he doesn't even try. It's quite apparent that he never bothered to listen to any of Luke Daniel's narration. Not only is he a completely different voice, but also uses completely different (i.e. WRONG) pronunciations. After all those books and stories with Luke Daniels, it is jarring and makes it very hard to enjoy an otherwise good Iron Druid story. Any kind of print version would have been far, far better.

NOT the same narrator! Find it in print instead!

It was a good story, I know it is a short story but it seemed a little too short. And while the narrator was not bad he fell far short of Luke Daniels' performances. And the way he pronounced things differently from the way Luke does and having the wrong tone and attitude for Oberon's mental voice really made it hard to accept the story as an Iron Druid story.

Story would have been better read by Luke Daniels

Good short story, but the performance has some odd moments. The narrator sounds robotic at times.

Good story, odd narration

This far into the series you really have to stick with Luke!! Not to mention he is simply in a different league performance wise. The story is good, cool back story on the ghouls. As always I can't wait for more!!!

Luke Daniels please!!

What did you love best about Carniepunk: The Demon Barker of Wheat Street?

This is a good short read. It sets up and moves quickly.

What did you like best about this story?

It's an Iron Druid story.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration is my only complaint about this. The person reading sounds more like my GPS navigation system than someone trying to read a story with multiple characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I did listen in one sitting.

A good short story
