Two very determined women - in love, at odds, and risking a lot on a second chance.

After years away from home, Summer Graves is back in Austin, Texas, to accept a new teaching position. Of all the changes to the old neighborhood, the most dispiriting one is the slated demolition of the high school her grandmother founded. There’s no way she can let developers destroy her memories and her family legacy. But the challenge stirs memories of another kind.

On the architectural team revitalizing the neighborhood, hometown girl Aiko Holt is all about progress. Then she sees Summer again. Some things never change.

Neither can forget the kiss they shared at their senior-year dance. Neither can back down from her unwavering beliefs about what’s right for the neighborhood.

For now, the only thing Summer and Aiko are willing to give in to is a heat that still burns. But can two women with so much passion - for what once was and what could be - agree to disagree long enough to fall in love?

Enjoyed The Story Line

I strongly disliked the narrator of this book, narration is not her forte. But overall, the book had a very good storyline.

wanted to love it more

The book was cute and the spice well written. I didn’t enjoy the deep southern twang the author gave the characters, Austin is not mobile Alabama. Overall the narrator made the book a lot more boring than I think it really was, halfway through I got the book on kindle unlimited and read it myself and enjoyed it more that way.

Good story - Narrator... siiiighs

Overall, I think the story was pretty well written. I wish I'd read it on my own though. The narrator, to me, seems better suited for children's stories or news events. Some words like "advertisements" were pronounced strangely and it was distracting. It was nice to hear a story about a lesbian couple though, as these are harder to come by.

Sadly Underwhelming

Love the Black lesbian representation, diverse characters, and second chance plot. Aiko and Summer are cute. However I found myself struggling to get through this. It took me double the amount of time I usually take to finish books. I couldn't really connect. The storyline just fell a little flat for me after about halfway through. It honestly could have been shorter. I feel like I was waiting for something to happen that never did and the ending felt rushed. The narrator was okay. Overall it was just okay.

Touch of Class!

Wonderfully written, but boring delivery. Loved the reconciliation, but didn't feel it. Author again, narrator not so much. Off to my next Adventure.

Voices matter

I enjoyed the premise of the book. The author descriptions were strong; I could get a clear sense of space, time and feelings. Some parts were predictable but not enough that I didn’t want to complete. The biggest challenge was listening to the narrator. The ability to carry the various characters was not there and made listening to the book hard.

Strong Black Women

Summer Graves had returned to Austin to teach at a private elementary school. She hates the chance in her neighborhood and especially the scheduled demo of the high school established by her grandmother. The head of the architect team is Alko Holt the woman she crushed on in high school. The kids they shared at the senior year dance was unforgettable. Two determined women with opposite goals. Great story.

Annoying Narration

I’m not even through the first chapter, but the narrator is so bad that I’m wishing I could get my credit back. The description for the story seems interesting enough that I’ll finish the book, but I was so annoyed that I needed to complain. I don’t know if it’s the way she over articulates her words or just her voice in general, but yeah. It feels like I’m in second grade and the teacher is reading to the class. This is going to be a painful read. I should have just gotten the ebook.
