Dylan is 18, scared, and sent to maximum security. The crime? Passed out drunk in the backseat of a car after his 18th birthday celebration.

If he doesn’t fight, he dies. If he doesn’t run drugs, he dies. The Jesters have murdered his brother and recruited his cellmate, and this is now home.

Interview with the Author

Q: What makes the MAX series so special?
A: It has to be the authenticity. Having the experience of seeing inside a real maximum-security prison and witnessing not only the inner workings but also the raw brutality, it gives this series so much more punch. I mean, when you read the latest crime thriller, you may wonder whether the events could actually happen. With this series, I have tried my very best to keep the emotions, the violence, and the environment as true to life as I possibly could, and I think that’s what attracts so many people to these books. Some actually wonder whether it really is fictional or not.

Q: Who are these books perfect for?
A: For me personally, I often dislike getting bogged down by a lot of meaningless fluff. Give me the story and let’s get on with it. The feedback I have received from so many readers is that they love my books because I never give them a chance to relax. The action, the violence, and the personal conflicts in the MAX series never really let up. As far as a thriller series goes, this one is there if you love edge-of-your-seat storytelling without the filler.

Q: So, just how real are the events in the series?
A: There are several sequences in the book that actually happened to me whilst working in the prison. Whilst very confronting at the time, they do serve a greater purpose as well--a reminder that prison life is tough, regardless of which side of the fence you stand on.

Emotional

I am not sure if this book is fictional or not but it is profoundly emotional and disturbing. My heart went out to the main character, Dylan Moody. He didn't deserve to be sent to maximum prison. He lost so much in his short life. I kept hoping for a better outcome for him. The book was well written. It is fast paced and gripping. Naarator Nate Gothard did a fabulous job.
