Publisher's summary

Nine years ago, he broke my heart and never returned. I vowed to forget him...if only I could.

When I was a child, I fell in love with a Dakkari boy. The prince of our clan. Rukkar, we called him. For he was destined to become the greatest horde king of our time.

He was Kiran of Rath Okkili. My friend. My strong, unyielding protector. His mischievous smile and golden eyes made my heart flutter and my soul sing. And just when I began to believe he returned my love...he shattered me so completely and never once looked back to see how I’d survived.

Nine years later, he’s returned.

Only, he’s not a prince anymore.

He’s a horde king. Cold and cruel. With molten eyes like sin and a body made for war.

I promised myself I’d never love him again.

He intends to make a liar out of me.

Because he not only wants my love again...he also demands me as his queen.

Great addition to the series!

This story was a good friends to (sort of, from the FMC's perspective) enemies to lovers between our two main characters. This is a slow burn but a great twist - up until now, the first 3 books were a taking of the FMC by the Horde King, in various fashions. This story is different and refreshing. If you're reading book 4, then you're familiar with the setting. This book also does a great job of continuing the overarching plot.

The narration for this was good! The narrators projected a lot of emotion into their performance and it only enhanced the story.

This is a great series! I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for any kind of alien romance.

I loved the heartbreak and the fight to right his wrong. It’s a spin on your reality of life. A beautiful escape. Keep the books coming 😁

The BEST of the series!

This one was a SLOW SLOW burn, making it so much more satisfying when they finally came together. I loved both main characters and truly felt emotionally invested in their story. I even listened to a couple chapters multiple times. 10/10 definitely recommend!!

Friends to enemies to lovers romance.

This story was hard for me to rate.
***
I didn’t like Kiran for a good portion of the story. Maeva seemed obsessed with him. There were things about both of them that made me angry and want to smack them upside the head. Their relationship was very messed up and had interference from other people too. Maeva came off as a doormat. Kiran was a man-ho while still thinking of her daily (grrrrr!).
End rant ***

That being said, I had passed the halfway point of the story before I started to like things about Kiran and Maeva. I still felt that they were better being apart but I tried to keep an open mind. Eventually I decided that I liked both of them and I guessed that they could be together if it made them happy. The confrontations that occurred made me happy. Maeva and Kiran discovered that there had been interference from outside sources with regard to their relationship which was a big deal. I adored that Kiran wanted Maeva to be happy so much that he made a decision without talking to her that effected her and those important to her. Their happily ever after was very sweet. I recommend reading this book (but be prepared for some frustration!).

You can also listen to the audiobook. The narrators did a great job of bringing the characters to life. I recommend listening to the audiobook as well.

My favorite of the series!

The love story is just amazing in this book. There isn't as much action and development with the main plot of the series but it was more than made up for with the love story and the amazing side characters (Maeva's family especially).

This book just solidified to me that Zoey Draven is an amazing writer. Her books aren't just mindless wash-rinse-repeat stories that so many other SFR writers seem to do, she really puts heart behind her characters and each story and character is so different.

The narrators for this series are PERFECT and do such an amazing job. I wish they narrated every other audiobook I own! 😆

I just love the imagery!

This one reminds me of the song, "Little do you know" by Alex and Sierra. At least the beginning. As usual Zoey released another page turner, another minute taker. I get lost her worlds every time.

There was some good groveling.

🔘Alien Romance
🔘Second Chance
🔘Groveling

Maeva and Kiran had grown up side by side, forging an unbreakable bond over the years. But when Kiran was called to take the lead of his own horde, their connection was unexpectedly severed, leaving Maeva with a shattered heart.

Nine years later, destiny led Kiran back to Maeva, but this time as the king of the horde. Determined to win her heart once more, he vowed to go to any lengths necessary.

✨Thoughts✨
While I adore this author's writing style, I regret not reading the series in order to have a better grasp of this alien world. Some of the expletives used had me in fits of laughter, momentarily pulling me out of the mood. Nevertheless, the main characters— both strong and complex— managed to capture my interest. Kiran's sincere groveling appeased my vengeful heart, and Maeva, as a resilient and empowered female lead, commanded admiration. Though, there were moments when her actions left me mildly exasperated.

Taking everything into account, I found great enjoyment in this story. If you enjoy alien romances infused with second chances, then this might be perfect for you.

🎧Lia Langola and Aaron Shedlock delivered a great performance, providing us with dual narration.
