Publisher's Summary

“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”

Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success - and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.

Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.

After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.

And then there’s Zoe.

He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.

Because the truth is they broke each other’s hearts - and maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.

Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any shit. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress-burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.

The Miles Family series is best enjoyed in order.

Finding Your Way Back Home

It's not often that I read romances featuring married couples. It's even more rare when it's a second chance romance between the divorced couple. Interconnected family series are always favorites for me and the Miles family has some amazing characters that I can't wait to find out more about. Broken Miles is Roland's story and it was such a funny and entertaining romance. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell were fantastic! Both showed their versatility and talent, voicing both male and female characters with ease. They were also able to convey so much emotion in their performances.

Making second chance romances believable and keeping the characters likeable is always a little tricky, but Claire Kingsley did an amazing job. Roland and Zoe's journey was at times frustrating, but it was also understandable and relatable. There's a lot of history between them and though I wanted them to hash things out and just talk to each other openly and honestly from the start, I could see how hard it could be to do that. Both have been hurt and are feeling vulnerable, so giving that much power to someone again is terrifying. I appreciated that they acknowledged the mistakes of the past though and actively worked to not repeat them. There's some delicious build up between these two and their sexual chemistry was scorching. Zoe was no wallflower, and I loved that she spoke her mind and didn't hold back. The epilogue (and bonus epilogue!) were sweet and hopeful and brought everything full circle for Roland and Zoe.

Family and sibling relationships play a huge role in the story and I have to say that Cooper (and Chase) often stole the show any time they made appearances. The things Cooper said had me laughing out loud several times and he was the perfect shot of comic relief. I'm excited to dive into the rest of this series (especially after the big family bombshell was dropped) and see how things play out for the rest of the Miles family.

This is a DNF for me

The story was juvenile. These thirty year olds act like immature college kids. The solution to every problem? Sex and alcohol of course. The dialogue was horrendous. I mean who doesn’t want to indulge in raunchy sexual talk with your 26 year old brother-in-law. I did not feel any deep emotional connection between the two main characters who were divorced and going to be reconciling. The story idea had potential, but was sadly left as just potential and nothing more.

Second Chance Love

I read this book many moons ago and I love the entire Miles Family series! I have listened to all of the other books in this series and after listening to this one I am going to go back and listen to them all again. Zoe is so fiesty and just what buttoned up all about making the money Roland needs. I love the relationship between Zoey, Chase and Cooper. Every woman needs a man bestfriend like they have. I like how Zoe was still part of the Miles family even though she and Roland were divorced. So many things I had forgotten about this book so it was really nice to go back and visit them all again.

I freaking LOVE Roland and Zoe!!

I love anything that Maxine Mitchell reads and I quite liked Joe Arden as Roland. Second chance romances are one of my favorites...Roland and Zoe's is one of the best....EVER!!!

Zoe and Roland were high school sweethearts who ended up eloping while Roland was still in college. While things were great at first they quickly went downhill when Roland was more focused on success at work vs a successful marriage so Zoe felt she had no choice but to leave and ask for a divorce. She was never truly far away from him since she works for his family's winery. When a emergency arises at the winery forcing Roland to go back home he must face what happened in their past and how much it actually hurt him when Zoe left.

The longer Roland is around his family and Zoe the more he realizes he no longer wants what he has in San Francisco....he wants to stay and he wants Zoe back. I had forgotten how soft of a person he was when it came to Zoe and his feelings for her. He sets out with a plan to make Zoe fall in love with him again and he is willing to do anything to make that happen, even giving up his life in San Francisco.

Claire did an spectacular job of reuniting these two and showing how they had grown as people in the four years they had been apart.

great beginning to a series!

Broken Miles is about ex husband and wife Roland and Zoe, about where they went wrong in their marriage and how to overcome the hurt they caused each other. I loved this book. Zoe's close relationship with Roland's family even though they are divorced, the fact that Zoe saw her worth and did something about it, and seeing Roland realize how he drove her away made this book really good. There's twists and secrets and so much humor. This book is a great beginning to this family series and i cannot stop!

So unexpectedly amazing!

A second chance romance about a winery? I had to smile, because I live in one of the biggest vine regions in Germany. But that wasn't the reason I chose this book ➡️ #narratormotivated

Still having goosebumps as I type this. Love how unique this second chance romance is. They weren't just a fling. They were each other's everything for a decade. I hold on to the hope that love like that doesn't just fade but it was so emotional to explore in this story!

I could barely focus on the road while driving, being so caught up in the tension. And let me tell you the tension is STRONG. But not just that. Because the surprises just kept coming.

I'll definitely check out more books of new to me author @clairekingsleybooks now 👏🏼❤️

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell are just amazing 👏🏼 I can't even imagine what the characters had to go through but I felt every moment as if I lived it. That's amazing narration right there 👏🏼❤️

Broken Miles

I actually came to this series after first reading the first two Bailey Brothers books, so I knew a bit about the Miles family characters and stories. However, that did not lessen my enjoyment of Roland and Zoe's story at all.

Their second chance romance is unique, as they were not only dating but married and divorced. Once they reconnect it is obvious their connection was never really severed, but it's not easy to find their way back to each other.

I really liked getting to know the rest of the Miles family, too, and am looking forward to seeing them all get their happily ever afters.

It was nice listening to this story on audiobook. The narrators did a wonderful job bringing the characters and story to life.

First time listener

First book from Claire Kingsley that I’ve listened too, and I loved every minute of it. I found myself laughing out loud to some of the comments. The narrators were perfect.

great listen

first time I've listened to this author. I'm normally a black ops, navy seal mission type of listener but thought I'd take a break. I liked the story and the knowledge of how a winery works was great. I laughed with Cooper and chase and was pulled along with the hero and heroine.
I liked the opening for Shannon.....which is later in the series and the little twist at the end.
Maxine Mitchell is so good at male/female voices, one of the few. Joe Arden I've listened to heaps of times and is always good at claiming his character.
the fact that introspection by both main characters led us to the end was clever of Ms Kingsley as it didn't go flat or flakey. it simply showed a couples need communication.
I'll read more but back to black ops/ lynne raye Harris and Susan stoker for now
