Courtesy of my controlling father, Marshall and I have been living together for the last couple of years. Because of his profession, we’d managed to stay out of each other’s way. His age and respect for my father is what kept him from giving in to my flirtatious advances. Over the years, we’d managed not to cross that line, until that one slightly drunken night.

For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings, preparing for my time to shine. I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night. Canon Holt. Famous film director. Fascinating. Talented. Fine. Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to centerstage Hollywood. From being unknown to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone’s lips. Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic, catapulting me into another stratosphere. But stars shine brightest in the dead of night.

Love that says something, instead of just looking like it. Love you can always trust to feel like home. For both of them, it’s something that has always been just outside of their peripheral, something to be observed rather than experienced. Publisher's Summary
According to my grandma, a broken clock being right twice a day meant that in any given situation, perfect timing only happens twice.
I fell for William Grayson in a matter of minutes. The connection between us was undeniable, but our timing was off. I was dating someone, and by the time I was single again, he was taken. And a year later, when we finally got together, it was clear that we were soul mates. But circumstances out of our control cut our time short.
We were a little older, a little wiser, when our paths crossed again. I was entering a new phase of independence in both my career and my life. He was growing professionally and moving to a new city. And even though our timing was off, it was still clear that we were soul mates. But for the second time, circumstances out of our control cut our time short. My grandma was a wise woman, but my love life taught me that there’s no such thing as perfect timing.
There’s just timing.... Because nothing is perfect. There’s just right now.... Because tomorrow isn’t promised. For as long as we’d known each other, William and I just wanted to be together. It was as simple and as complicated as that.

Too Sad but a great story that wasn’t your typical
The story was great. This author thinks outside the box of your typical urban love novel. However, she spent too much time on each scene and dialogue. It was overly detailed. She would spend roughly 10minutes on how she felt about a situation or worse 10 minutes on the feelings she felt in great lengthy details. Then the story was too sad. It was bad news after bad news ending with the worst news. I didn’t feel good listening to this book. It was a struggle.

Unexpected
Well written. well performed. The “hero”and the plot however were not what I was looking for in a romance. As for the heroine, on point. Would like to say more but it would be a spoiler. Side chick Molly gets much more goodness out of this world than she deserves.
I would really love to see more black hero’s written without baby mama drama and to actually be deserving of the woman who truly loves them. This one is silly (a fool as his own mother says) and has unrealistic expectations for the woman he “loves.” I know they’re out there. Let’s write about them.

This was depressing, not a romance and too long
If I would have known how this story was going to end, I would have never started it. I am a romance head and this tory was too long and too depressing and too much drama and too much back and forth with them breaking up and getting back together. i wo'nt spoil the ending but it is hard for me to put down a book once I start even if I am not enjoying the read and that end clenched it for me. This was my first Danielle Allen book and because of that reading, it might be a while before I try another one. I feel like I was cheated out of a real love story. If Lailah, Will, Deuce and Molly had a happy ever after it may have been worth it but dang. It also did not need to be the 100,000 words mentioned at the beginning. Half of that would have been good for me. Weleigh Siobhan gave a superior performance as usual and that was the only saving grace.

Story
Zavion never knew what love was. His mother abandoned him at two, leaving him in the hands of his father, to deal with situations no child should ever have to face. Forced to grow up sooner than he should've, Zavion's heart became cold and his emotions void. Now, he's an owner of a popular tattoo shop and he's still battling scars from his childhood. Unable to deal with his past trauma or allow himself to open up to anyone, Zavion throws himself headfirst into his work and uses women as objects rather than partners...until he meets Samara.

Story
I don’t believe in objectifying men. I don’t catcall men. I don’t ogle the bodies of men. I don’t view men as objects of my affection rather than complex people with feelings, wants, and needs of their own. I don’t treat men the way society often treats women. I treat men the way I want to be treated as a woman - with respect! So, when Carlos ran into me while I was reviewing my interview questions in the park, it surprised me to see my photography classmate out of class. I was also surprised to see as much of him as I did.

Story
Courtesy of my controlling father, Marshall and I have been living together for the last couple of years. Because of his profession, we’d managed to stay out of each other’s way. His age and respect for my father is what kept him from giving in to my flirtatious advances. Over the years, we’d managed not to cross that line, until that one slightly drunken night.

Story
In a shattering work that shifts between a woman's private anguish over the loss of her beloved baby cousin and a scholar's fierce critique of the American prison system, Danielle Allen seeks answers to what, for many years, felt unanswerable. Why? Why did her cousin, a precocious young man who dreamed of being a firefighter and a writer, end up dead? Why did he languish in prison? And why, at the age of 15, was he in an alley in South Central Los Angeles, holding a gun while trying to steal someone's car?
