Srimad Bhagavatam is the most prominent of the Puranas, or histories of the Ancient World. The original Sanskrit text of the work, penned by the great sage Vyasadeva, says it is "as brilliant as the sun", because its teachings can illuminate our consciousness even in the darkest times. Canto 8 Delivers as Promised
From the tale of the devoted elephant king, Gagendra, to the many mystical battles, losses, and wins of the gods against the Asuras, to the various divine incarnations of the Lord, this Canto is rich, colorful and captivating.
We listen to the machinations of the Asura king, Bali, and to Matsya, the Lord as a fish incarnation, who rescues King Satyavrata, as this Canto unfolds like a divine game of chess with complexity, surprises, and victories.
Filled with pithy tales of devotional teachings, I couldn't put it down and replayed a number of chapters again to refresh my memory of who was doing what.
I am looking forward to listening to Canto 9.
