Publisher's summary

Bread & Wine is a literary feast about the moments and meals that bring us together.

New York Times best-selling author Shauna Niequist offers an enchanting mix of funny and vulnerable storytelling in this collection of recipes and essays about the surprising and sacred things that happen when people gather around the table.

With beautiful and evocative writing, Shauna explores the sweet and savory moments when family and friends sit down together. She invites us to see how God teaches and feeds us even as we nourish the people around us and ponders how hunger, loneliness, and restlessness lead us back to the table again.

Part cookbook and part spiritual memoir, Bread & Wine illuminates how sharing food together mirrors the way we share our hearts with each other and with God. And it explores what it means to follow a God who reveals his presence in breaking bread and passing a cup.

For anyone who has found themselves swapping stories over plates of pasta, sharing take-out on the couch, laughing over a burnt recipe, and lingering a little longer for one more bite...this book is for you.

Recreate the meals that come to life in each essay with recipes for Goat Cheese Biscuits, Bacon-Wrapped Dates, Mango Chicken Curry, Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Toffee, and many other wonderful dishes. A satisfying listen for heart and body, this book is one you'll want to keep close at hand all year round.

Met Shauna at Life Today

This book is every bit as delightful and refreshing as my brief encounter was with Shauna. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Disappointed in her theology.

I get it, this book is about food. I wasn’t really looking for anything deep or theological. Honestly, I was just looking for a light read to listen to while getting work done around the house. She’s clearly great at writing and easy to listen to. My problem comes in when she refers to being in the hospital with her son and someone telling her to pray to Mary. She finds some solace in staring at Mary statue. She also says a mini hail Mary when leaving the hospital. Not, thank you God, for saving my son. Not, thank you God for sending your son and sparing mine. Who shines in the chapter? Mary. A dead human. Just Mary. Why? Christians do not pray to anyone but God. They don’t have statues of Mary. It’s an idol and Shauna is traveling the world speaking to women? Why do all these “godly” women compromise? Where are the women of God who actually know him? Who aren’t afraid to tell their friend, no, I won’t pray to Mary to save my son? She can’t hear my prayers. Disappointed.

Food for this mother's soul!

I love her books and this one was wonderful. Full of all kinds of wonderful encouragement. It's always great to hear a book read by the author. I can't wait to try some of the recipes she's shared and start my own dinner club. Thanks Shauna!!

A few notes to the author...

First and foremost - DEAR GOD PLEASE - look up the correct way pronounce the word "pont" (as Parisiennes say it, not Canadians) as you are not even close.

Second, try lifting weights for strength and endurance. Should help tune up that busted baby maker of yours and help you maintain a healthier weight. Get a trainer. You won't succeed without one.

Third, you are obsessed with eating. ITS JUST FOOD. Get the opinion of a therapist that specializes in eating disorders if you disagree but I'm pretty sure they're gonna side with me on this one.

Otherwise, your book was ok but you could turn the melodrama down a few notches. Just a thought.
