Funny ,crazy take on magic!

Ok, I expected a B book as a first entry. It did have some repetitive scenarios. But, i found it to be fun and charming, loved the crazy take on magic. I will 100% read the next one, it made me crack a grin more than a few times. Keep it up and always sharpening your style and I think you might very well be asked to write a series. Good read for me.

Great performance, good story! Please do book 2!

The performance by Chris Graves is by far one of the best match ups with this particular story. An absolute splendid job well done. Most books that I read, then listen to after the fact, takes a bit of time to get use to but Graves exceedingly fits this narrative.

The story: what if you trained your whole life to become a Paladin of the Light. And when you pass all the tests and training you instead are laughed out of the order for reasons unknown... well in order to continue down the path of justice and retribution you go "Assassin's Creed" style solo. That is until you become a champion of the Death Goddess herself. Dishing out Justice and retribution all the same just not as a paladin but a necromancer!

Tired of MC's who couldn't read a situation from social queues and reactions? MC's that just make snarky comments for no reason at all. Well, Vance isn't like that! He makes snarky comments and deliberate action to ACTUALLY get a read on other people, like a real person... go figure.

Note: I have read book 2. And it fleshes out why the MC is so confidant and skilled when we delve into his personal history. The MC really takes tremendous shape.

Also, this book is not for the faint of heart. Sexual content and cursing... beware.

A time killer

I picked this up while suffering from post series depression. It served it's purpose but that's about it for me. Though it is of a fantasy setting, it's an action movie of a book and the protagonist is almost a satirical class chad. There isn't much personal growth nor challenge, and finds himself surrounded by powerful beautiful women for a party. The book can be summed up with people over there to be killed, they are killed, sprinkle in some dialogue for a new kill quest or interaction, rinse and repeat.

great story

I loved it although I do wish the narrator would mix it up with enemies. They all sound the same. other then that a great addition to my collection!

overall I liked it

So our hero is a complete Chad but over all it was a fun experience I will say that it's really inconsistent over who exactly are the antagonists and just how much of a bad boy our chad is.

Can you finish a series?

Story is interesting somewhat. If you like a protagonist that has the emotional maturity of a fifteen year old. This author seems to either have ADHD or just likes to string you along because he never finishes a story. Honestly not even worth the time.

No tension

MC is overpowered, overconfident, always knows what to do, and feels like he's never in danger. Any brief moment of tension is immediately relieved and the MC is victorious.

It reads like King is trying to write an Eric Vall novel. Which is to say, a forgettable, dull, power fantasy.

The powers, premise, and overall styling of the world are fun and entertaining. Repetition of basic ideas gets a little old, but the world has potential. It's the one bright spot in an otherwise uninspiring read.
