Wrong voice actor

I found books one and two and the voice actor who narrated them brilliant wonderful and entertaining. Having said that, the stories in this series are probably fantastic, however I cannot move my brain past the voice actor doing them. The gravelly raspy voice of an elder English gentleman who made no effort at all to change pitch, tone, inflection or make any noticeable difference in the voices of the different characters he spoke for, including women, as well as his shatner-esque pause after every 4th to 5th word, made this unlistenable to me.

A lot of entertainment

To start, I should mention that I read most of the stories previously. The narrator did a good job. The collection loses a star for technical issues caused by pasting the individual audios together that could easily have been caught.

I was given this audiobook by the author for free and have voluntarily left this review.

Poor recording quality

I originally gave these books a higher review, however I have been getting frustrated at the poor recording quality. There are multiple times in the recording where the audio jumps and you are left feeling as though you have missed something. In one book (book 3 I believe) it repeats a good long section. Very annoying.
Lastly I should say that there are other stories that intersperse this “tempest only” series which, not having known that prior, leaves out large gaps and plot lines that are referred to but leave the listener/reader confused about what had happened. I would recommend that the publishers actually listen to the entirety of the recording for quality control as well as include a chronological series bundle or at the very least better information on the order the books should be read.

Narrator is awful but story is great

The narrator, like another reviewer said, is like a British William Shatner. There are random pauses in sentences (he is already speaking very slowly so the pauses are even MORE awkward than shatner) and it makes it nearly impossible to listen to… but I’ve found a work around: listen to it at 1.2-1.5x speed and the random pauses are significantly less awkward. The story is great, though. Just wish they had either kept the narrator from the first two books or found someone different to do these ones.

It’s just FUN

I found this series after listening to and falling in love with Albert & Rex’s Culinary Capers. Blue Moon
Is quite different, but just as much FUN, in its own way. I have a new favorite author and I am thrilled that he seems to be prolific🙌

A few glitches but worth the time and purchase

I enjoyed the continuation of the detective’s escapades but . . .
The performer sounded too old for the 30ish Tempest which made it little less pleasing to listen too. (Although the voice was perfect for the Mr. Higg’s Albert Smith Culinary Adventures series.) It made it hard to envision the story because the voice was incongruent with the character’s profile. Also, there were a number of audio glitches. And it was frustrating to have the end of one book seem to lead into the next book, ‘In the Doodoo with Voodoo’, but that book wasn’t included in the box set. It felt like I missed a part of the story that was referenced in future stories.
But even with what seems like a bunch of negatives, I enjoyed the series and will continue listening as they become available thru Audible.

Good story but…

The reader has a very choppy delivery that detracts from the story. Otherwise a good book.

Great box set

The entire series is great. I would have preferred less talk about sex but it is part of the persona. Highly recommend all if Steve Higgs books and Charles Robert Fox is one of my favorite narrators.

unfortunate change of narrator

the first 2 where great listening and funny, but I'm very disappointed in the new narrator

still not happy about changing the narrator, but I love the books, especially since I have 2 dachshunds.

great

what a funny collection of books, I really did enjoy them however it would have been even better if the narrator had a bit more range to his voice for individual characters xxxxxxx

Disappointed

The narrator is sadly lacking in his performance. His cadence is constantly the same, every sentence sounds the same, at least it might put me to sleep, but not very enjoyable!

should not have changed the narrator

Really enjoyed the first 2 books of Tempest Michaels. The storyline is good with good humour included. Tempest and his friends are very likeable, flaws and all! However I don't understand why there is no narration for book 3, more importantly I don't understand why the new narrator is an old man, or certainly sounds like one (I'm not being ageist however as it sounds like an old man it does not fit in with the characters) I am going to see how long I can listen for, but Peter Fullager was far better suited to this role than the new one.

Great books shame about the reader

I've stolen these comments from another review but they are my sentiments exactly.

Fantastic Boxset!

I've skipped around these books in print form reading them as I was able to get them. This boxset is excellent b/c it takes them in order and includes the very first one as well which explains how the series began. If you love mystery, dachshunds and intrigue, along with a dollop of laugh out loud silliness, you will love this series! Macho men, crazy criminals, women to sort things out and paranormal investigations...what more could you ask for?
Great narration by Charles Robert Fox!

To the narrator

This narrator is disjointed in his cadence while speaking, causing the sentences to sound choppy and simply doesn’t flow. The story is great, but I did not enjoy the narration.
