Publisher's summary

It’s time to go back home.

In the years since Lindon left Sacred Valley, he has attained power beyond anything his family thought possible. Now he’ll have to put those powers to the test, because a Dreadgod is on its way.

Lindon and his allies set out to evacuate the valley before the arrival of the Wandering Titan, but their sacred arts are weakened by an ancient curse. They’ll have to persuade the squabbling inhabitants of Sacred Valley to leave behind their home and set off into the outside world.

But it has been a long time since Lindon left, and more has changed than he realized.

He has always sought power to save his family…but now he might be too late.

Lindon the Prodigal Son?

The story of a prodigal son returning home?

Bloodline explores some tough issues revolving around expectations and growth. Will Wright does not take the easy way returning the hero to his homeland. He forces Lindon and his hopes/dreams/aspirations to confront some harsh (and unfair) realities. Lindon and his friends must overcome more than the dread god and the mysterious suppression field of Sacred Valley. In so doing, they face daunting odds, serious power reductions, doubt, and disbelief.

The book does a fine job handling these issues without diminishing the hero's journey. As the author does this, Will Wright advances the over-arching contexts (as well as component storylines) in a satisfying way, but moves this book to a more nuanced level beyond the first eight books. I think "Bloodline" improves the series by growing not only the characters, but also their motivations.

Powerful addition to Cradle!

This book is so good! Love the progression of the book and the knowledge that we get as readers to continue to unfurl the Cradle Universe! I can’t wait for the next one - that ending is totally unexpected!! Wonderful Job Will Wight!

Just as incredible

And here I thought, with some disappointment, that wintersteel was the best one so far. But boy was I wrong! Sure it seems to go on and on but at no point did it drag and the book ended with pure satisfaction, even though there are hints of more to come. Throughly enjoyable. Wish Book 10 was available now!

Great Character Building

Bloodline was a a thrill ride from start to finish. The specter of death hung over our heroes the whole time. The book sets up the story to come very well, and I can't wait to see where it goes.

As always, Travis Baldree kills it with the narration.

Not as good as wintersteel, but better than uncrowned

This feels like the next episode in a tv series if you get my drift. A lot happens, but not really. A lot of Lindons actions, and his friends actions seem out of character and a bit odd. The scope has gotten huge, and the characters have gotten a bit too plot centric. The Yerin/Ruby issue is kinda poked at but never really resolved, Eithans eccentricity is moved back towards comic relief, and Mercy is still just kinda there. We are treated to a refugee crisis in the war torn valley filled with suspicious murderous clans who backstab at every opportunity. it's still a fine continuation, but the story suffers from a situation filled with unlike-able people. Meh.
