London. A city drowning in fog. Amid that fog, a man with no name dies above a strange junkshop. Threads of mist and intrigue weave around a court case with no resolution, linking great country houses with the lowest slum in the city, mingling the high-born with a boy who sweeps the filthy streets, enshrouding devious plots and sudden murder, bringing together two extraordinary women – Lady Dedlock and Esther Summerson - who seem to have nothing whatsoever in common but who will find themselves inextricably linked.

Audible's trilogy of Dickens dramatizations, executive produced by Sam Mendes, and with a new original score by Dan Gillespie-Sells, concludes with the most dramatic and atmospheric yet, starring Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), Ambika Mod (One Day), Mackenzie Crook (The Office) and Mark Strong (Kingsman).

It is a great classic and was a wonderful listen. I highly recommend, and hope we get to hear more of the wireless theater format.

Truly a great performance by all. I enjoyed listening to every moment. I will look for similar Dickens productions.

Outstanding Performers

I cannot speak highly enough about the narrators. Of course, it's an Audible production. Being a Charles Dickens fan, I have tried to read this book for years but couldn't get past the first few chapters. Audible ALWAYS brings the characters to life and I absolutely couldn't put it down. Don't miss this one.

Smiply Outstanding

I love all these actors and I think they do fantastic work with the characters and language. But if I hadn't read Bleak House recently (and seen the BBC miniseries adaptation), I don't know how I would have followed this audio dramatization. It doesn't give the listener enough sense of who's talking, who they are, where they are, what the relationships are.
Wonderful voices, especially Esther - who for once sounds like a thoughtful young woman instead of a child; haughty but vulnerable Lady Dedlock; and gravelly menacing Tulkinghorn.

Great performance, confusing adaptation

As an audio recording and performance the audio book is outstanding. As listeners, it is too easy to get lost in the focus of the story and the main characters. I applaud the director’s adaptation to avoid including ALL of the minor characters.
Historically, we understand that Dickens was paid by the word and therefore stretched out the story with many characters and subplot elements to increase the overall word count.
