Publisher's Summary

USA Today best-selling first book in the Erin O'Reilly Mysteries series.

Erin learned a lot from her partner: stay alert, follow your nose, and once you've got your teeth in them, never let go.

It’s tough working nights with the NYPD. The crime rate is high, the hours are terrible, and forget about a personal life. So, when Officer O’Reilly and her K-9 Rolf switch over to the day shift, things look up. She’s even able to find time for a new boyfriend.

But when the theft of a priceless painting from the Queens Museum leaves a fellow police officer dead, Erin and her four-legged partner find themselves dealing with dangerous criminals, sleazy art dealers, and obstructive detectives in a race to capture the killers...and just maybe bring closure to a 75-year-old crime.

Simply didn't excite me.

It was a short and unimpressive as far as I'm concerned. I won't be listening to the entire series. It was just a book.

Wow, another fantastic canine police detective story

This is my first read from this author and I just love their style. Great story kept me interested and tuned in. Very much like some of the other top authors that I read and the subject matter of police officers, detectors, and their canine partners

Book 1 hooks you and is difficult to put down.

The trials and tribulations of being a LEO. The K-9 is not given human thinking and actions. Pretty much spot on.
politics of the PD ring a true tone also.
Kristi Alsip is darn good with all the dialects and voices.
So far I have purchased the first three Audible and Kindle releases in this series.
Money well spent.

Black Velvet

I can honestly say that I’m looking forward to the next book in this new series. The story line was believable & the main characters left me wanting to learn more about them. The police dog was just the icing on the cake as I am an animal lover.

Fun and Intriguing from beginning to end

I’ve read this book on kindle before, but as I don’t have much time to read now a days I decided to try the audio books so that I could catch up on the series.

Erin O Reilly is a compelling protagonist and the narrator of the audio book voices her way better than the voice in my brain. She truly brings Erin to life.

I’m a crime and mystery buff so I tend to guess the ends of the story before a lot of folks, but Steven Henry does a great job of setting out a landscape and the facts of a story in a way that keeps you guessing. You actually get to unravel the mystery as Erin does which is a rare thing now a days.

Action, dogs, some history mixed in, Black Velvet is a great introduction to a fantastic Mystery series. Definitely worth a read.

Not a "dog" story

The narrator was good. The story was OK. I don't know if I will purchase Book 2....maybe. I thought there would be more about the dog helping solve the crime.

Just ok

This story just didn’t hold my attention- the storyline was weak and the characters didn’t come to life. I was expecting more about the dog! There didn’t seem to be much of a bond between the main character and her dog. Disappointing.

Solid Female Cop Tale

Solid police story with an interesting female lead. The other characters are lightly brushed in, but it holds your interest. The narrator is good, and the slight NY accent lends credence to the story.
