Publisher's summary

A timely resource for Black professionals on how to rise to the top of their organizations or industries and, just as importantly, to stay there.

Black Faces in High Places is the essential guide for Black professionals who are moving up through their organizations or industries but need a roadmap for how to get to the top and stay there. Based on the authors' considerable experiences in business, in the public eye, and as a minority, the book shows how African-American professionals can (and must) think and act both entrepreneurially and "intrapreneurially".

In this book, you will:

  • Expand yourself beyond your comfort zone
  • Recognize and demonstrate the four facets of excellence
  • Build beneficial relationships and powerful networks
  • Identify different mentors and learn from others' experiences
  • Discover ways of working with others to facilitate collective action

Black Faces in High Places highlights the experiences of other Black faces in high places who were able to navigate various crossroads, reach the top, and stay there, including insights from President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Cathy Hughes, Angela Glover Blackwell, Ken Chenault, Senator Cory Booker, Geoffrey Canada, and others.

Phenomenal ... Reading it again right away

Phenomenal. Reading a second time right away while also taking better and more extensive notes. I bought a copy for my son, daughter, a nephew, and a direct report that is about to be promoted to a management role.

It is truly an insigh guide for the ambitious

Ones journey can be challenging in a world that normally isn't for those other than the ones it was created for. There is much to be said about navigating thru a system that can be changed by understanding how opportunity can be created without conforming to those norms of which you may feel to be outside of what should be. Trends and opportunities go hand in hand with the right vehicle, and this book will most certainly give you the tools to adapt and concur whatever you need to know about protocol, understanding, and direction. You will have to decide your fate by just knowing you matter in spite of any preconceived notions. It made me clearly see that the path I am on is the right one. It is a brilliant piece of literature I highly recommend for anyone looking to have a greater understanding of the world of business and life as a man of means.

Awesome Book for Black and All Professionals

I really enjoyed this book. Genius leaves clues and the two authors are geniuses in their respective areas. I also appreciated the sage advice on business development, community engagement and importance of faith.

I also thought the narrator did a phenomenal job, I really enjoyed his tone of voice.

I would recommend to all aspiring professionals, and especially Black professionals.

Excellent body of work that provides a roadmap on multiple dimensions to reach heights in your career and to leave a lasting impact on the world. My advice to any reader is to do and don’t worry about thinking here unless you have a better plan.
