Publisher's Summary

Trina Lee would sell her own mother’s house out from under her if it meant securing a sale, no joke. Her reputation as a ruthless deal closer and her record sales year in Boston’s luxury property market should’ve landed her Realtor of the Year, so when the award goes to new girl rival Kendall Yates, Trina is left speechless. And, okay, turned on.

Kendall made more enemies than friends the night of her big win, but she couldn’t care less. She’s the best, and she has the obnoxious glass paperweight to prove it. This is the edge she needs to escape the shadow of her family’s reputation. When her boss accepts a friendly bet that she can close the holy grail of property deals, she’s not about to fold for anyone. Especially not to overly cocky and annoyingly beautiful Trina. Even if it breaks her heart.

This one is a no from me dawg

The opening brings us to an award ceremony and one of the characters comes in second when she wanted first. This leads to an unprofessional and hateful confrontation with the 1st place winner which as it was described made me really have secondhand embarrassment. The development of their attraction doesn’t seem like it would be possible after such a beginning but they end up having something start. I really hate that lack of trust and communication is where the drama comes from and I cannot stand when something is said so explicitly by the bad person and the innocent person still has to fight to prove themselves to be loyal. BRO THE BAD GUY JUST SAID SHE DIDN’T KNOW. I’m not usually critical of other people’s work but come on, the silent treatment and borderline ghosting as a punishment for someone else’s actions is manipulative and emotional abuse. The narrator did a good job and is the reason for the rating along with the author throwing in a trans person who goes by they/them, it’s nice to see some representation for our T in LGBT. Still though, read (or listen) at your own risk. OH YEAH!! I almost forgot! Ok so there’s one part where she describes her ah...well she calls it the C word LMAO and I have only ever heard that as a fighting term like if the C word happens it’s gonna be some hair pulling, scratching, boob falling out on Jerry Springer type action but it was used in a sexy/sensual way? It made me laugh so hard, just wanted to share that.

Another amazing story by Fiona Riley..

I read the hard copy a couple weeks ago because I couldn’t wait for the audio. I was hoping Keira Grace was attached to the audio to be honest. She completely knocked Not Since You out of the park. I’m not complaining about Ms. Sternenberg narration, just felt this would of been an amazing read by Ms. Grace because of all the wonderful characters. Maybe she will be picked for Bet The Farm. Or even Lori Prince.. both are amazing at bringing the pages to life.

Could not finish this book

This was hard to get through and I only made it to chapter 11. Trina was just a bully and Kendall just took it all without defending herself. Hopefully the second half of the book finally had Kendall being the stronger of the 2 women but I just could not get through the rest of it. So sorry to this very talented writer, this book was just not for me.

Good read

I have been looking forward to this release and I did enjoy it for the most part. The only distracting feature I found was trying to distinguish the two main characters when they were speaking. The voices at many times were extremely similar which caused me to have to lose some focus on the story. Overall, I enjoyed it and it did derive some emotion in me once it started developing.

Great book

Cute romance with a healthy competition thrown in. I'm looking forward to the remaining books in the series.

Irritating

The characters aren't very likeable and I hate any story that has women rooting for other women to have a double mastectomy.

Comes out fighting, battles the reader away

So... as someone who dropped this after about 3 or 4 hours of story, I found this book simply unenjoyable to listen to. The two main characters do come out swinging in terms of hostility - in that case, the enemies part of enemies to lovers holds true - but it's incredibly hostile, even beyond that.

I simply could not connect or empathise with Trina at all because of her vitriol and ego (while some stories manage to make arrogance a turn on, this does not manage it). I stopped listening because I stopped being able to take the characters seriously, and it just wasn't an enjoyable story.

Would probably recommend if you enjoy conflict and uncomfortable confrontations, but otherwise, cannot recommend.

Always amazing!

Fiona's books never disappoint! Originally read "Bet Against Me" in print and then gave the audiobook a chance. The narrator was amazing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I may have cried a little...well, actually a lot! Let's not forget...it was hot!

Returned.

Narrator is one of my favorites, but the story was disappointing. Going to return.

Poor narrator

The story was very stilted and lacked depth, sounded more like a high school writing project.
