Shane Ryan returns to Nashua and the childhood memories that drove him to join the Marines. After a prolonged legal battle with his aunt and uncle, Shane has possession of the family home where his parents disappeared over 20 years ago. The house, a monstrous castle filled with ghosts and secrets, is more alive than its inhabitants.
When his aunt and uncle come to town, then vanish, Shane's life takes a turn for the worse. Detective Marie Lafontaine immediately labels Shane as the prime suspect. And in a race against time, Shane desperately searches for clues about his parents.
But there's something lurking beyond the walls and beneath the surface. Something sinister that has haunted him ever since he saw its face in the pond behind the house. And it isn't happy that Shane is back.
It isn't happy at all.

There was music, secret rooms. The detective and the marine guy had excellent and interesting chemistry.
If you like ethereal hauntings- without too much specific sense to it all, then this one is for you. it's not cozy, it's not cute and easy. It's a proper haunting.
Would listen to again.
A haunting to die for.

If you could sum up Berkley Street in three words, what would they be?
unusual haunting storyDid the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes. How the ghosts seem to be afraid of each other, that always seemed to make me wonder why.Have you listened to any of Thom Bowers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes. He is a pretty good narrator, nice accents and age differences.Who was the most memorable character of Berkley Street and why?
Carl. I just love him, how he calls Shane "my friend" and looks out for him.Any additional comments?
The other books after this fall short, they aren't as scary and this one seemed to leave something left unsaid at the end. Yet the next ones in the series jump to different locations. I hope they return to Berkley Street.Scary but different.

Narrator: I got used to his voice in another book, but he's not the best with women's voices. However, I do understand that it's super difficult for a guy to do a woman's voice and not have her sound husky and breathy. Luckily there isn't a lot of femalkfemalke dialogue. My other poor point is that his Italian sounds Egyptian or even almost Indian half the time and his German sounded French at times.
Still, a good spooky read.
Good and creepy
