When a traumatic event occurs, our body triggers its “fight or flight” response. In many scenarios, the emotional reactions of this response get trapped, disrupting the feedback loop between our mind and body, leading to an imbalance in our nervous system function. Over time this can cause chronic stress, pain, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. This, alongside regular triggers in our everyday life, will manifest into a disconnection between our mind and body and create a constant feeling of dissociation from our emotions, with minimal control over how we feel.

Somatic therapy combats this dissociation by targeting the root of the issue. By employing a range of exercises and tools with a body-orientated approach, we can enhance our mind-body connection and restore balance to our nervous system. Wonderfully put-together

I loved this audiobook – it was very well written and researched and you can tell the author put their real effort into it. It did a great job at explaining what somatic therapy was and the science behind it. It really takes you through so many actionable techniques and exercises that you can do to help with healing trauma and relieving stress. If you're looking to improve and strengthen your mind body connection, I definitely recommend this book!

A New (to me) Healing Approach

I've recently discovered the practice of somatic therapy for healing from trauma. I love that the exercises are dispersed throughout the book so you can take immediate action while listening to each section. I'm already a positive-minded, optimistic person; but learning more wys in which the mind and body are connected can only help me achieve the dreams and goals I have now that I have added this means of stress relief and trauma healing to my repertoire.

What a great practice that benefits the mind and the body. This practice of somatic therapy will help anyone who is struggling with mental health, those who may be suffering from physical ailments, and even those who just want to be more in tuned with their body. This type of therapy that you can do in the comfort of your own home can lead you to a healthy relaxation response, improved emotional release, and better working immune system. Somatic therapy

This audiobook is such a pleasant eye-opener. I have to admit, I really did not know much about somatic therapy, but now I am 100% in and starting to take steps to integrate some of the strategies into my life. I really appreciate the straightforward and easy to follow directions. I found the section on regaining emotional control and breaking free from the impact of past traumas to be very empowering.

Strengthening the Mind-Body Connection

Becoming the Body is a wonderful audiobook that focuses on strengthening the mind-body connection through Somatic Therapy. I had never heard of somatic therapy prior to listening to this audiobook, so I learned a lot about what it is and how we can all practice it to reduce stress and help recover from traumatic experiences.

I really found chapter 7 to be extremely interesting which is about releasing through self awareness. I found it extremely interesting when we are feeling stressed or perhaps triggered about trauma that we are feeling, that it may not be trauma that we ourselves experienced, but it may be a past self that is feeling that trauma but it is resonating with us now. Very fascinating. Highly recommend!!

powerful stuff here

Wow, if this is where the world is headed, then count me in! I could not get enough of this audiobook. Initially, it was just an "on the whim" choice for my morning commute, but it soon became the time I would look forward to at the end of the day. I literally could not get enough and can't wait to listen again. I had many ah-ha moments of clarity.
