Publisher's summary

National best-selling author Hannah Reed returns with her fourth Scottish Highland mystery, in which she is swept up in a murder following a Sir Walter Scott celebration.

Spring is here, and romance author Eden Elliott has settled into her new life in the picturesque village of Glenkillen. Love is all around her, but Eden is still searching for her own real-life romance. She is also dealing with a creative meltdown and a robber who is running amok in the village assaulting local pensioners. When Eden is invited to a supper in honor of one of Scotland’s most celebrated literary giants, a guest is murdered, and she puts aside her personal issues to dig into deeply buried secrets. But she better find the killer soon if she wants to be alive to overcome that writer’s block - and write another happy ending.

Too short but really enjoyed!

The good: The characters! I love them all. It feels like the purpose of this was to wrap up the series, which it did. Though, there is definitely room for more if Hannah Reed wanted to make a return visit. And I would gladly read!! The story itself would have been a 4, however…
The Bad: It was way too short! It feels like the author maybe did this book as an afterthought and just threw it together. The plot was good, the characters good, and plenty of suspects. However I guessed, like many others, at the very beginning. So it lacked any real red herrings. Had the story been more developed it could have been a great book.
The Final Thoughts: If you read the first 3, this is definitely worth it to hear what happens. Especially if you like to know how things end. Like me! And btw, I liked the ending! I know others didn’t, but I definitely did. Even had a couple giggles about what could be next. The narrator is great, as in all the books.

Another fun adventure on the east coast of Scotland

Though shorter than the first three books, it moved a wee bit more efficiently than those. Fun read.

Really!

After all that…3 1/2 books, and that’s how it ends??? That’s just wrong!

Okay, but disappointing ending

I wanted to finish off the series after already investing in the first three books. The story was okay, but not the greatest. The mystery wasn’t very mysterious but actually rather obvious. I was disappointed in the ending in every way. It felt like the character gave up on what she really wanted to give in to what everyone expected of her, in more ways than one. Would really have liked to see this turn out differently.

Guessed the storyline immediately… no surprises or original plot ideas

The storyline, the characters, the plot were all too short, too abbreviated, and too much like her other stories for me to enjoy this particular book. I’m guessing the series is finished with this title. If not, it is at least finished as far as I’m concerned. Nothing new here.

Thoroughly enjoyable mystery

I have always enjoyed reading Hannah Feeds novels. Mystery great and characters loveable.

Narration by Angela Dawe pleasing to hear.

Sweet

For 1 credit I wish it were longer. I have enjoyed Hannah’s stories but this one was short and sweet.

Loved it

Not sure why anyone would have any issues with this series I thought it was absolutely adorable. Looking forward to book number four!

Disappointing after first 3 books

I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series very much so I bought this one and was so disappointed. The answer to the “mystery” was so obvious it was painful waiting for Eden to catch on and figure it out. There were also some odd off-hand continuity errors at the beginning that threw me off (don’t want to spoil book 3 for anyone so I won’t say more). I do love the narrator, though. Another excellent performance despite the lackluster material.
