Publisher's summary

"I know who I am and what I want, but Jordan makes me question everything."–Luke

My life is as predictable as it comes: I go to work at my security job, I hang out with my friends, and I spend my free time alone. I don’t want or need anyone or anything else.

Then I’m assigned a night contract with Jordan, who’s my complete opposite, and my world is flipped upside down.

Jordan is friendly, outgoing, and nothing like the men I’m usually attracted to. He’s also big, confident, and can turn me to putty with just his words. I don’t know who I am when I’m with him, and while he makes me feel better than anyone ever has, I’m not sure I’m ready to let someone else take control.

I like Jordan, and I trust him, but is that enough for me to give in and let him take care of me?

Battle for the Top is an opposites-attract, grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort story featuring a jaded former soldier turned security guard, his friendly but guarded co-worker, a found family, and accidental feels. It is Book two in the Heroes at Home series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone.

Very enjoyable, no surprises

Two very likable MCS, both relationship adverse. But somehow they find one another. Initially, it’s just convenient hook ups, but slowly within themselves, they find that the other is truly important. minimal angst, wonderful found family and secondary characters. Made all the better with two very talented narrators.

Book number two in the series, just as good as the first. Willow Dixon writes a fantastic mm book. the narration is also very good. john solo and J F Harding really brought this one to life. the characters are very likable and make a perfect couple. patiently waiting for book three.....

Not My Type… never sounded so amazing

Luke hasn’t had an easy life. After an unstable childhood, his mother dying when he was 18, and very difficult tours in the Army, Luke was on a downward spiral with alcohol. His fellow Army buddies picked him up, got him sober, a place to live, and a stable job. Three years later, and with love kept at a distance, he found himself with a crush on his coworker, Jordan. The problem is… Jordan is not his type. Not at all. It’s not just that Jordan is also an alpha male (top) like him. It’s so much more complicated.

I really like FTG and Bisexual Awakenings like book 1 in the series. While this book is neither of those, it’s written in a similar way… Luke feels so out of his element with Jordan, it’s almost like he’s realizing he’s gay for the first time. So this book felt like a FTG type of book in my experience listening to it.

While I loved the dynamic between Luke and Jordan, I really fell in love with Jordan’s character to where I am putting him on my list of favorite book characters. Some of his dialog felt very emotionally sensitive and unlike what I picture an alpha male saying. However, somehow, he pulled it off. It was believable and beautiful. Both narrators nailed their performances in this book but… I completely fell in love with how John voiced Jordan (which wasn’t even his character). I have heard so many books read by John and I have never heard him do that voice before. I am in love.

This book was a pre-order for me after I listened to book 1 three times in a few weeks. Having said that, this book was even better than book 1.

Nice story.

A little predictable for these two. A lot internal turmoil for both. One was fighting with sobriety. The other not being able to sustain a relationship for to long. They worked their way through it with the time they worked together but that was coming to an end and neither could figure out how to get around their own walls to let the other know how they truly felt about each other.

Author was lazy but nice story

I was distracted from the story by the repeated dialogue. Different characters often repeated the same thing. The sex scenes seemed borrowed from the other book and also were boring. I really didn’t like the line about the kitten snuggling up to the other character. Im not sure how many times that was used but it represented the overall laziness of the author.

Not much of a story

I was hoping for more of a storyline, but there really isn’t anything but the imagined romance between the two. It seemed the second half of every chapter was sex.

Not a great listen

So simple, formula and lacking in heat. So much constant self doubt was exhausting. The story lacked depth and had odd unneeded emergencies and reactions.
