Publisher's Summary

Affairs of the heart can be lethal in New York Times best-selling author Eric Jerome Dickey's latest sensual novel.

As a low-level enforcer in Los Angeles, Ken Swift knows danger, but nowhere does he feel it more than in his tangled romances. Divorced from one woman, in love with another, and wrestling with a strong desire to get to know a third, his life is far from perfect, and it becomes all the more complicated when his troubled daughter resurfaces. Marguax is pregnant, and when she demands $50,000 for her shotgun wedding, the tension-filled father/daughter reunion escalates into a clashing of wills and desires that spread far beyond their family. As raw emotions surface, they ignite revenge, love, longing, desperation, and despair...and the flames just might be deadly.

With the strong characters, heart-pounding action, and intense passion he is known for, New York Times best seller Eric Jerome Dickey lays bare a tale of lust and angst that will leave listeners breathless.

Not Dickey's best work

Dion was awesome as always! The story however was quite boring and uneventful. I'm disappointed because EJD is my favorite author of all time and I have never before read a story of his that I didn't like. I didn't hate this story but it was boring. I will say that I did like the use of African characters and the light shed on turbulent relationship between Black Africans and Black Americans.

Happy for another EJD book!!

I think Dion Graham is awesome! He really brings the characters to life!!! I fell for Jake Ellis!!! Love him and hope he appears again I'm the future!!! The story was good, not nearly as intense as the Gideon series, but I'm a super fan so I could never be mad!!!

50/50

This was definitely a history lesson. Too much dialogue, although interesting, and not enough storyline. I liked it but gosh no one talks for that long conversational wise be it casual or angry.

Great ending

Of course Dion Graham is the absolute best narrator. This story is mild but good. Not a suspense. And a wonderful ending

EJD does it again

The story follows Ken Swift as he handles transactions as a paid thug. The attacker becomes attacked, the cheated contemplates cheating and a father unites with his daughter. Overall, I enjoyed the story. It appeared as if there were many different sub stories within the main theme (all good) and that created an exciting storyline. There were elements of racism, sexism, class, colorism or shadeism and a host of other prejudices. I have always loved to listen to the musings of EJD, but I felt this book’s racial rants were just too much. Despite not liking all the parts of the book, I understand the book is a reflection of the current racial climate, so these things needed to be said. (I just didn’t want to hear it). I found myself skipping through these parts to get back to the storyline.
Oh, and let me tell you about that Dion Graham. That man is EVERYTHING, loved his performance.
P.S, I am patiently waiting on the next Gideon book lol

Awesome

Great book! I didn't want it to end. If be interested in hearing more to the story. Say a year or two later. Like after the dust settles.

Action and Love

Enjoyed the action and love story. If there is another book for the series, it should feature Margo's life and true reasoning for bleaching and her growth and maturity after having the baby. And it's confirmed the baby is actually the ex-boyfriend's.

Too Much Dialogue

Loved the story and the narrator. However, there was way too much talking between the characters even when it was not necessary or appropriate.
