Fantastic

Wonderful reading by the author. Stands up over time. One of the great voices of the generation.

very strange collection

I quite enjoyed this. there is a very subdued sense of darkness in each story that is presented so factually that you only notice subconsciously at first. highly recommend for those with a sense of curiosity and empathy.

Just a quick review

mmmmm what to say what to say. It's a interesting story on just people's thoughts and every day feeling. So true and different.

Unexpected and Great!

I found out that the movie “Secretary “ was based on a short story contained within this book and that was the reason for my interest. I made the mistake of reading a few negative/lackluster reviews about the book and began it with a tainted attitude and some erroneous preconceived notions. I briefly started the book, felt that the reviews were justified, and set it aside in favor of other books and podcasts. I came back to the book several weeks later and started over. I am so glad that I did!

This is a book of short stories about complex, unconventional, unusual people dealing with complex, unconventional, and unusual situations and uncomfortable relationships. Sometimes I found myself laughing out loud. Other times, my mind wandered because of the thought provoking nature of the material. I thought the author did a great job reading the book and her tone and voices were perfectly suited for the characters. Wonderful! Highly recommended!

Narrator is very flat

The stories are odd (expected) but the narration is really tough to listen to. One tone, VERY flat and monotonous, weird ‘out of breath’ spots and strange lilts/pauses. There is also really no break between the stories so with no change at all in narrator, it feels like one story just streams into the next
