Fantastic

Wonderful reading by the author. Stands up over time. One of the great voices of the generation.

very strange collection

I quite enjoyed this. there is a very subdued sense of darkness in each story that is presented so factually that you only notice subconsciously at first. highly recommend for those with a sense of curiosity and empathy.

Narrator is very flat

The stories are odd (expected) but the narration is really tough to listen to. One tone, VERY flat and monotonous, weird ‘out of breath’ spots and strange lilts/pauses. There is also really no break between the stories so with no change at all in narrator, it feels like one story just streams into the next

So evocative

Contemporary work does so much to describe the emotions. Gaitskill creates tension and narrative and imagery that let me feel my own feelings. Such precision and particularity. Love
