Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

In the years since singer-songwriter Christy DeCarli won reality show Nashville Dreams, her life has descended into a wretched personal hell.
Reeling from the breakdown of her once perfect marriage and terrified by the haunting visions of her recently still born child, she is ready to end her pain.
On the other side of the quaint Massachusetts village of Boxforth, God-fearing grandmother Ida Buckley is battling her own demons. Depressed and embarrassed by her current squalid living arrangements, Ida has become obsessed with the famous neighbor that shares her haunted little corner of America...but the old lady has a secret. A secret so dark and nightmarish that what’s left of Christy DeCarli’s young life will be changed forever.

It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

I tried to like it
Was confusing at times but since it was a short listen I kept going. Wanting to know the answers but waiting and waiting for something to happen. It finally did in the last few pages very quickly. Still confused.

It's okay...just not for me
Overall the narrator did a great job. I just don't think this story was for me. To be fair, I really don't want to give a negative review just because I didn't like the story. I did find it a little hard to follow, but overall it was okay. I was given a copy of this audiobook for an honest review.

Talented Voice Artist
I loved the concepts, but not the characters. Could have used more tension and scares. Not for me. Talented voice artist.

Confusing
I do not write negative reviews because a book I do not like might be good for someone else. I did not particularly liked this book. I kept listening to it waiting for the horror part. It never came. The end was a bit confusing. However, the narrator did a good job.
I received this book free for an honest review.
