Rune

Today is my thirtieth birthday. My parents mailed me a gift, like they always do, but I accidentally nick my thumb while opening the box.

A tiny drop of blood wells on my skin. And without thought, I press the tip of my thumb between my lips and close my eyes.

When I open them, I’m no longer in my apartment. I’m on the side of a mountain. Standing in the rain.

Convinced this isn’t real, I seek shelter in a cave. But I’m unable to stop myself from moving deeper into the cavern.

Where I find him. A man, lying inside a hidden chamber, sleeping atop an altar. My body is not my own as I walk closer. As I reach out to touch him. To see if he’s real.

But then a force stills my hand above his face. And my heart… stops beating. The muscle freezes inside my ribs.

While I panic, unable to move, I watch as a single drop of blood beads on my thumb. And falls. Landing perfectly between his parted lips.

He opens his eyes. My heart finally resumes beating. I stumble back, falling… And land on my apartment floor. It was a dream. A hallucination. Not real.

Except my clothes are wet. And I feel the weight of him inside my chest.

Vameer

I only meant to lie down for a little while. A few weeks to rest. Gods, I just needed to rest.

But instead of waking on my own, I’m woken by the unmistakable taste of my mate’s blood on my tongue.

We lock eyes. My solid black orbs to her human ones. But then she disappears.

When I follow her scent to the entrance of the cave, I find that the world has changed.

I don’t know where my mate went.

I don’t know how to find my brother.

But I know I must find both of them before my enemies do.

And I fear I may have slept longer than I meant to.

I read this on my Kindle, then listened to the audio. Audio is definitely the way to go because I LOVE hearing Vameer and some of the other character's accents. It really makes you feel like you are in the world and these narrators were perfect!

Vameer was only supposed to nap for a couple of hours. Those hours turned to days, which turned to years… 103 years to be exact. What finally wakes him is a taste of blood. Not just any blood, but the blood of his mate.

I really liked the way the fated mates trope was handled in this book. Fated mates are naturally going to have that insta-love feeling, but the time Vameer spends searching for Rune after she wakes him up almost feels like they’re getting to know each other. Through her scent, heartbeat and emotions, Vameer is slowly learning about Rune and forming this connection with her before they’re even together. Meanwhile, Rune has NO IDEA what is going on or what the future has in store for her. (haha!)

I’m always a fan of dual POV, but Vameer also gives us a few extra POVs throughout the story, and I thought they added a lot to both the bigger storyline and the humor. That’s something I always love about SJ Tilly’s books. Even when she’s writing about vampires, fated mates and supernatural beings, she still finds ways to make me laugh.

Vameer is the second book in the Bonded Souls series, and I definitely recommend reading these in order. There’s a larger story developing alongside each couple’s romance, and I’m really enjoying seeing more of this world unfold with each book.

Vameer the man you are. It was just as good as his brother Voliks book. I cannot wait for Orion and Dread as they better be next!

I am here for Vameer. I had an easier time with this one, thanks to the groundwork Volik laid. I truly dont think you should read this without having read Volik first - you just won't get as much out of it and there's so much to be had. Vameer picks up right where Volik left off, introducing you to him and Rune. There is so much humor and fun (and of course spice) in this, I was smiling the whole time.

Wow, just wow 🎧! Let me just say, you need to listen to this book!! It is done so well, Samantha Brentmoor, Chloe Ryan and Sean Masters have returned to narrate this second book, in the Bonded Souls Series, and joining them is Walker Williams.
They are an amazingly talented foursome and together they grab you from the very start and pull you into this alternate Tilly-verse world 🌍

Each book can be read as a standalone, but you will thoroughly appreciate these stories so much more if, you read them in order.
