Okay now that you have me hooked...

WOW, what a story! I am so o looking forward to the next in the series. it took me a minute to get into the story after the basic intro. at first it was dull because the writer was setting up the background, but after you get past the initial boring stuff the story blossoms. it doesn't blossom like a firewotbut more like a rose. I am really looking forward to the next in the series so...

Good Stuff

Honestly can't wait for more, and just to see where this series goes! My only kinda negative outlook about this book, is that it should be way longer than it currently is.

Great storyline

My first book by this author and I am hook. The storyline was the right mix of action/adventure and slice of life w/a dash of lustful romance. Looking forward to the next in this series!

Better and Better as it went on

This started very interesting and then hit a bit of a lull. It seemed as if the character was on easy street early on. However, as the story progressed it really developed well. The side characters filled out and the world got more and more interesting. I’ll likely check out the next one.

Stellar Story and Performance

This audiobook absolutely pulled me in. The world felt immersive, the characters believable, and the magic system was clearly well thought out instead of just being random “because magic” handwaving. The secondary characters were especially fun, adding humor, warmth, and personality that made the story feel alive.

Tess Irondale’s narration elevates the entire experience. She doesn’t just read the story—she performs it. The emotional moments land, the characters feel distinct, and the pacing keeps you engaged from beginning to end.

Be aware going in: this is an adult story with several NC-17 scenes. They are well written, respectful, and emotionally connected to the characters, but this is definitely not a fade-to-black romance.

My biggest disappointment is honestly that Book Two isn’t available yet because I wanted to keep listening immediately after finishing.

This is also one of those rare audiobooks that feels completely relistenable. I already know I’ll revisit it.

I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to my open-minded adult friends.
