One Man. A Legendary Tavern. A Dungeon full of rules he's about to dismantle.

When Derek is accidentally summoned to another world alongside the chosen "Hero," and is framed by a fellow summoner, he's sent off to the world's most famous labyrinth with nothing but a deed to a notoriously dangerous tavern.

So, Derek jumps right in. He decides to take up the mantle and open the tavern. When he chooses to mass produce illegal health elixirs to help adventurers, he accidentally kickstarts a movement to transform his humble, lawless tavern into a powerful depot that follows him from monster-filled dungeon level to level.

Perhaps, they'll grow powerful enough together to conquer the entire labyrinth once and for all.

Hilarious take on a dungeon delve

This book is interesting at the start but doesn’t dig deeper into the characters in the book.

Derek(the main character) is a social alcoholic. That some up his character and as long as this book is that gets boring. The author uses an autobiographical narrative but Derek is lacking in the ability to self- reflect, and wants us to think he’s really cool and does awesome stuff.

Unfortunately, my take away was that Derek is a boring loser, and I’m still trying to figure out if the author knows that or is living in Derek’s delusion. Too many good things keep happening to Derek for the autor to think he is a loser but the way the author describes Derek’s daily life gives loser.

Overall I was fighting to finish the book and not fall asleep. I don’t care about Derek and I don’t care if he succeeds.

I did’t care by the end

The story itself is in some ways very believable, but is a sad way because it reflects how political movements seem to get started in the real world: some person recognizes some social anger and co-opts that anger to their own purposes. As far as morally questionable main characters go, Derek is the most relatable character I’ve come across. It’s not hate for the world or unrelenting power that drives him. In some ways, he is an unfortunate victim of circumstance with the right tools to start a political movement. Derek is not an idealized hero and that is the point. It this regard the story is very well done. However, even with a very well written anti-hero, the story kind of falls flat for me as a fantasy story. The start of the story sets up the potential for an interesting magical system by describing three different cores, but then never does anything with it. It expands that system with an interesting magical array system and then does very little with it. It creates an interesting social microcosm within an dungeon where people don’t age until they exit, which it actually does something with, but it sets up the idea that there will be some fantasy style dungeon crawling and leveling up, but that never happens as the story is more of a political drama within a dungeon than a fantasy story. When viewed with that context it’s not a bad story, but because of that disconnect the plot didn’t scratch my fantasy itch in a way I found satisfying.

Isekai autobiography of a smart but irresponsible man with questionable morals who started a political revolution

I was not expecting to find this so good. MC is a human with flaws and human motivations. hopefully there will be a 3rd book

My new favorite series.

I choose this book because the reviews were good but once I started listening to it I feel like I've been had and that maybe the good reviews were purchased. The main character is a dumb ass who just wants to get drunk and high and sleep with women, you know your typical 20 something guy that has very few redeeming characters. The dialog is high school level at best and the plot is just lack luster despite initially sounding like a wonderful plot, the humor is a redeeming quality for the book but not by much. If I had used a credit to buy the book I would have returned it but since I didnt, thats my bad, I will have to try to get though it even though the main character is lack luster

Not Worth It
