Alex had sacrificed everything for the sake of his friends.

He had traded his future for a chance to cripple a divine tyrant hell-bent on destroying everything he held dear, paying the ultimate price for the sake of everyone he loved.

Now, he had a second chance.

A chance to start over, free from the malice and machinations of all his foes.

A chance to live out the isekai fantasy of a peaceful life that he had always yearned for, in the distant desert city he could just make out, across the desert sands.

Or he could turn around and race to the aid of a doomed caravan just minutes away from being overrun by raiders, and charge into a fresh new adventure full of excitement, wonder, and peril, growing in ways he never had before.

Either way, the choice was his.

Eager for a fast-paced adventure filled with deadly adversaries, exotic adventures, and mighty cultivators fighting for the power to topple kingdoms? Then press play!

The story is a good fresh start IMO.
But as other commenters have stated, the way all the female characters slobber after the MC makes thise characters feel empty and shallow, no depth.

Very good and fresh. But...

Love this series and the performers (Wayne and Reba) who bring this story to life everytime I hear them perform! Excited to see where the story goes and another great performance by Wayne and Reba!

Great Story!

There are so many things I was looking forward to seeing in this next book.

1. will the MC actually be able to be with the women he loves (no).
2. will he finally make it to gold and beyond (no).
3. what happened to all the major characters that we've come to know and love in the prayers books (?)
4. what does it mean that there are other deities outside of the world that we've come to know (?)
4. see the growth of the technique see developed (no).
4-A. we do get cheap knockoffs though.
5. learn more about the kitsune and what will ultimately happen to them (?).

just to name a few.... what's the point of getting invested in these books if it ultimately means nothing in the end with no resolution.

But forget all that this is basically a soft reboot all the characters you've grown to love and know in the last books mean absolutely nothing now. Well at least the main character will be able to form real attachments with any romance you might find himself in? Nope, the author immediately comes up with some contrived method to reinstate the MC's forced celibacy,!!! WTF!!! If the author reads this, I want him to know that he should leave romance subplots out of his books if he doesn't want the main character to actually indulge in those romances. All they are is a tease, one that ultimately goes nowhere and can be freely skipped because they mean nothing.

I can't really recommend this novel, and frankly I'm not sure I will get invested in it either, as there does not seem to be a point. Furthermore, I'm unsure I'll be picking up anymore books in this series. If I could get my money back on all the prior books I sunk into the series, I would.

disappointing and frustrating

this book is technically a continuation of the series but it's also a soft reboot of sorts, which is why I'm so confused that the author almost immediately chose to retread old ground

don't get me wrong it's a good story but why give things a "fresh" start only to immediately start walking down the exact same path with the same tropes.

enjoyable but confused by the direction it chose to head.

I always enjoy when a new book from the series comes out, and start it as soon as I finish whatever I was currently listening to. But the one critique/question I have is more so for the author. I don’t understand why he always makes Alex basically celibate. It’s as if he goes out of his way to make this a major theme of the story. There is already a ton of cussing, gory fight scenes, and we know he’s had wives and children in previous lives. So I don’t know why Alex getting laid is such a big deal and don’t believe it’s and Audible ratings thing. It’s not like I’m wanting some smut here but just a simple “and then they spent the night together“. With how often this happens to him it just seems a little ridiculous, and starting to get annoying at this point. In the previous books, he had his “cultivation deviation“ that wouldn’t allow him to do anything until silver, but then what do you know, it got moved to gold. When this books reset happened, I had a glimmer of hope that this wasn’t going to happen all over again, but sure enough he experiences a “cultivation deviation” and now has to wait until bronze. Then there’s another, “oops, now I gotta wait until late bronze or silver”, and I’m sure in the next book it’ll get pushed to gold somehow. At this point, I just don’t understand why he keeps doing this, but then always references it every time one of the heroines kisses him (which is multiple times a book). It’s almost as bad as how often we hear the word “halcyon”. As mentioned at the beginning, I really do love these books. This is just that one little splinter in the hand that keeps causing a bit of annoyance. Also, shout out to the narrators, they always do an amazing job!

Always a Good Listen
