This is a love story . . . but not the one you’re expecting.

Start at the End is a powerful, soul-stirring, sliding-doors novel from the bestselling author of The Last Love Note and Pictures of You that explores second chances and unwritten endings.

Audrey and Fraser tumble into a romance for the ages. After an unlikely start, they fall deeply in love and dream of the life they’ll build together—until one tragic moment upends everything. Facing the unimaginable and wrestling with guilt, they’re left haunted by “what ifs,” each asking where they would be if fate had spun a different story.

Start at the End is an unforgettable drama of two soulmates who have to find a way to start over when they had only just begun.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“A powerful, romantic drama about love and loss. Emma Grey is so skilled at navigating relationships and tragedy, imbuing her stories with such feeling, wisdom, and originality. This one will keep you guessing right until the end, with a sliding-doors twist that kept me turning the pages late into the night.”—Sophie Cousens, author of This Time Next Year

"Emma Grey is a talented, beautiful writer, full of wit and wisdom and brilliant observations. I loved this book immensely and got the feeling that I have not had in a very long time: of not wanting it to end, of wanting to know everything."—Robinne Lee, author of The Idea of You

Start at the End is a tour de force of honest humanity. I was utterly enthralled by these characters who leap off the page and this premise which so masterfully explores the question of fate. Emma Grey’s writing cuts straight to the heart, leaving the reader in awe of the complicated gifts of life and love. Somehow, this book is both an immersive escape and a bold confrontation of reality at the same time. I was swept away and will not soon forget it.”—Sarah Damoff, author of The Bright Years

A lovely exploration of resilience after the loss of a loved one. It’s the sort of story that sits with you long after you have finished reading.

This story follows Audrey and Fraser, who meet unexpectedly at a Halloween party & then again at a music composer event. Their relationship quickly progresses from there. One day they both receive a call to pick up Fraser’s daughter from school, but from that moment, the book splits into two alternate realities.

In one timeline, Audrey passes away, and we follow Fraser as he tries to navigate life and fatherhood through overwhelming grief.
In the other, Fraser is the one who dies, and we see Audrey’s version of that same loss and how differently it shapes her.

What makes this book hit so hard is how raw and unfiltered it is. It shows how grief can break you, reshape you, and sometimes push you into really dark places. There are heavy themes of depression, addiction, and self-harm, making the situation feel even more realistic.

Watching the same love story unfold in two completely different ways was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. It really makes you think about how one moment can change everything and how differently people survive loss.

Literal Perfection but I expected nothing less.
