Diar, who is smitten with Jenne, roommates with Jadon, and sworn to Christina's House, finds himself increasingly torn between the other three as they train, study, and jockey for position among their peers.

As evidence of the Order's corruption begins to emerge, the students will have to re-examine their assumptions about themselves, each other, and the role they hope to play in the Order's future—if they aren't expelled first.

New Favorite Author

I love this book! the writing is brilliant; it grabbed me from the first scene and kept me engaged until the end. B.F. Peterson is my new favorite author, and the reader of this audible version is the best I've heard. Two nobles and two commoners begin their adventures at Eshtem, a university for exceptional young people to train them in the skills and character necessary to become guardians of peace and freedom. Peterson has built a fascinating and believable world, with characters that are delightful and varied, complete with magic and dragons. (And the dragons are really cool!) The magical parts of the story are not overwhelming; the real delight is in the characters and their interactions with their world and with each other. I'm hoping for a sequel, if not two or three, because I want to go back to Ellyrian, soon!

Do yourself a favor and read/listen to this book, you won't regret it.

(And check out her other book, The Land Beyond the Waste. It's the prequel to this one, taking place 1600 years earlier and setting the stage marvelously to the world of Ellyrian. You don't need to read it to follow and enjoy this one, but it's really fun!)
